The Stonecutter's Motto

There are plenty of ways to be wrong about something. I know from experience that being ill informed, undereducated or stubborn about viewpoints can prove to be equally as wrong from a factual standpoint, as deliberately spinning untruths or manipulating ideas for ones own benefit. But what is being right all about? In Charles P Pierce's great treatise on the stupification of America "Idiot America", he points out that a fact, whether an actual truth or not, is only as powerful as the amount…

Advertising

The following article is taken from wikipedia and there were a nice picture of a woman in the 19th century advertising (already) coca cola.

I find myself amazed at the impact that advertisements have on our lives, and even on the net there are some; basically everywhere (except in a book or more seriousthings such as a documentary on radio or T.V. or in your own home because as soon as you get to look at the world outside or you step  out of your home your…

de Botton's Atheist Temple

Alain De Botton has a new book out, so what better time to be in the news making controversial statements? The negative press he has received over the idea of an "atheist temple" is deserved I think, because having a place to reflect quietly on all things secular, the beauty of the universe, and the incredible unlikelihood of our existences already exists, and we call them "museums" and…

Visions of Reality

This year, as in every year, I try to pickup something new. Something that will grab my attention and time. Something that will give me an appreciation for those who are already involved in what I have decided to play with. Some years I succeed, some years I fail, but it is always fun.

This year…

Marijuana Mania

Through the years our government, whether local or federal, has painted drugs as a whole and marijuana in particular, as a killer of success. The last few years of commercials that focus only on marijuana are not only misleading, but possibly devastating to the public as a whole.

What is the…

Fear and Loathing in Indonesia

Australia's neighbour Indonesia, home to one of the largest armies in the world, is a fiercely religious place. It officially recognises 6 religions, the largest of which is various forms of Islam making up 87% of the population. The rest is a combination of Protestantism, Catholicism, Hindu, Buddhism and Confucianism. Atheism and agnosticism are not recognised and it is illegal to blasphemeagainst any religion.…

This mornings 2nd Lucid

So I’m laying down and I just finished writing the first morning lucid in my phone.. it’s about 8am and I still feel kind of tired.. Usually I fall back to sleep and have dreams but none of them lucid. This time was much much different. I lay back down but couldn’t get comfortable until I turned onto my back.. I never sleep on my back.. Almost immediately I start to doze off. I noticed I wasn’t really sleepy, more like my body was tired and I was along for the trip. So here’s what…

Existence: Finite or Infinite?

When a lamp gets old and breaks down and it gets thrown away it has evolved from being a “lamp” to being a “broken lamp” and eventually, given enough time, it won’t be known as any form of “lamp” any more because It will decay and break back down into its elements. As a lamp it no longer exist, its parts are now floating around some place in the cosmos becoming a part of something else and interacting with other things. Its being recycled over and over and over again. This is also true with…

Obsolescence of Ideas

Historically there are certain human inventions have helped catapult humanity forward at an unprecedented rate; from the invention of simple tools, to the advent of steam-power, the harnessing of electricity through the burning of coal, the printing press, and the information super-highway, to name a few examples. Also historically we see many of these ideas in their simplest or more advanced forms superseded by a newer technology or idea as innovation and social cooperation increases, or…

WHEN FAITH BECAME SECRET

If I watch a documentary it is because I am really interested in the topic.  Well, I got very frustrated when watching an hour on the rosicrucians and an hour on the freemasons; I think I learned almost zilt!

Those documentaries were named something like The secret Sign about secret, mysterious religious societies. The 1st one was about the rosicrucians (AMORC) but it seemed rehearsed, the other one too, about the freemasons, and I learned very little about what really went on in…

Brainwashing To Believe

On Friday 13 January this year, The Telegraph reported that Islamic terrorist have been brainwashing children into believing that if they strapped a bomb to their chest and detonated it in a public place, that the bomb would only kill Americans. The story said this:

"The largely illiterate boys…

Friday, Superstitions, Stone Sleepers and Gullability

Yesterday was Friday the 13th of January 2012. Just like most Fridays, I woke up and went to work, finished work and came home. The only difference between Friday the 13th and Thursday the 12th was one rotation of the earth, and the fact that following Friday is Saturday, as is the convention of the seven day calendar we adhere to. Most people I know hold Friday the 13th with no more credence than a slight sense of amusement, knowing that it is a completely arbitrary number falling on…

The ultimate issue: suicide

Death has always been a much written about and much sung about topic, and death by one's hand. It has also been a subject that has been much researched and studied and still is, that is, suicide is.

Many people think about suicide in the course of their lives, maybe some not and some more than others, and a very very few minority actually kill themselves.

I have had death as a companion never too far away for most of my life.  Now, as I grow older and I can get some distance…

Fish

I finally had a chance to swim today and it was awesome. Usually when I open the gate and walk onto the deck, the pool is full of people treading water. Well, some bounce up and down in the shallow end, exercise of some sort I'm sure. Never very inviting to me; I'm a fish

Well, maybe I'm a…
