Jonathan that's awful you don't feel welcome around your family especially for being disabled, but I think I know what you mean. Since I've found myself house bound due to a long term leg illness many of my friends have ceased visiting me. Some peoples reactions can be very hurtful. I also had back surgery in 1998, which was successful. I had terrible sciatica, & they had to operate on the crushed disk causing it. They also removed arthritis, which I didn't know I had at the time.
Over the years, severe arthritis has re-developed, but its now pinching nerves down the inside of my legs so my walking is very limited. I use a mobility scooter to go to town, & a walker, which can be mounted onto the scooter, to get around the store.
Yes, being ostracized is just ''wonderful'', isn't it?
