Textile industry, lumber industry, big pharma; all would lose if growing hemp was legal. Can't have that now, can we.

Zachary. Ask Dupont why is it illegal.and see my earlier post.

Dupont developed nylon in 1935.

I do not like the smell of the smoke, or appreciate why people smoke the stuff, but seriously, why is it illegal.

If I was religious I'd say this plant is a divine gift from Dionysus =)

Michel: You may remember that the National Cancer Institute came out supporting marijuana as a useful drug in helping cancer patients in several ways. Some studies indicated that it may even reduce the size of tumors in certain cancers.

Then of course the government stepped in and had them remove that data.

A few years before that a study said that marijuana seemed to greatly reduce instances of lung cancer.

Bastards should do some real studies on the drug and give us real information.

Makes a damn fine cordage that is stronger than sisal and manilla cordage. The clothes that are made from hemp last a long time and get softer as they age. Tarpaulins and sail canvas made from hemp last longer and strong than those made from cotton.

Funny you know you Americans during WWII had a thriving hemp growing and production  base going to supply the Navy with cordage and the like. The farmers were coming up with machinery to make the harvesting of the plant quicker and less labour intensive. But that all come to a crashing halt as soon as the war finished and the banned the growing of hemp and basically because a chemical company invented nylon but could not compete openly price wise with hemp so they lobbied to get hemp made illegal!
