This is where our rules need to change for allowing people to move here, & if the men don't like then they need to stay in their own damn country.

Mrs.B Can you imagine living in a country for many years and not learning the language and in this case the husbands forbid you learning to keep you under the thumb.

Comment by Mrs.B on January 23, 2016 at 8:49pm

I think part of being allowed to move into our countries, is that learning the language is a must!!!! Not doing so makes no sense whatsoever.

Colette Douglas Home: Why the state must stop funding faith schools

By the time I left school, aged 18, I couldn’t distinguish between which beliefs I had worked out for myself and which were absorbed through conditioning. It wasn’t just our assembly that had a religious flavour. Every lesson started with a prayer. We paused for the Angelus at noon and throughout the school day all moral or ethical issues that arose in class were addressed through the prism of Roman Catholic teaching.

I dare say many readers will have shared my experience of being educated in the faith of forebears. It is traditional for many but is it right?

YASMIN ALIBHAI-BROWN: It is crucial that Muslim women learn English as without it they and their daughters are kept captive

  • Yasmin Alibhai-Brown believes PM is correct to bring up language issue
  • Says Muslim men are stripping away rights of their wives and daughters
  • David Cameron said that 190,000 Muslim women speak little or no English
  • Mrs Alibhai-Brown asks why David Cameron blames women for being unable to speak English when he allows single-sex faith schools to be built

Rochdale has a large Muslim population, and I’m a Muslim woman.

Yet at the height of the general election campaign last year I visited the town and, as I walked around with the standing MP in predominantly Muslim areas, I saw no one like me.

There were many Muslim men – but no women out and about. It was as if they had been spirited away in a spaceship.

I went knocking on doors. The women were there, but they would not come out.

Many, I believe, felt they had to stay indoors unless they were accompanied by a male member of their family. And most spoke little English.

Peer urges government to ‘disestablish’ Church of England over anti-gay vote

A member of the House of Lords has asked the government to consider disestablishing the Church of England – after the Church helped ‘punish’ an Anglican Church that embraces equal marriage.

Christians reacted with shock last week as the Anglican Communion – the global conglomerate of churches headed by the Archbishop of Canterbury – voted overwhelmingly to sanction the US Episcopal Church for affirming same-sex marriage.

NSS backs plans for better safeguarding in supplementary schools

NSS backs plans for better safeguarding in supplementary schools

The National Secular Society has expressed broad support for Government plans to safeguard children and young people who attend "out-of-school education settings", including madrassas, with a system of registration and inspection.

The NSS, which first raised concerns about child welfare in supplementary school settings with the Government in 2011, described proposals to tackle the problem as "long overdue but very welcome."

Petition to remove bishops from the House of Lords gains over 10,000 signatures

A petition to remove Church of England bishops from the House of Lords has gained over 10,000 signatures in the space of a week – meaning it will now receive a response from the government.

The petition was launched in response to the Anglican Communion's censure of the Episcopal Church for the US group's support for equal marriage.

The petition says: "With the publication of the Church of England's intention to sanction the US Episcopal Church over the latter's sympathetic stance towards equal marriage, the C of E is quite out of step with UK Law and indeed common humanity. Thus we feel strongly these bishops have no place in our government."
