What If Consumers Just Want to Buy Junk Food?

Americans may say they’re seeking out healthier fare, but sales figures tell a different story.

Earlier this week, the Pew Research Center released a study that analyzed over 40 years of American dietary habits. For the Bittmans, Pollans, and public-health junkies alike, the results were baffling and, by many possible interpretations of the word, disheartening. Using decades of data from the USDA, Pew found that Americans are consuming less milk, but more cheese; much less sugar, but much more high-fructose corn syrup; and 23 percent more calories in 2010 than in 1970. “Americans’ eating habits, in short, are all over the place,” concluded Drew DeSilver, a Pew writer.

That Kraft Velvita isn't cheese it's processed food spread - garbage.

Comment by Stephen on August 30, 2016 at 8:27am

It makes all the difference in the world when cooking with cheese, if you use a good tasting cheese instead of that pap Velveeta. Kraft makes a fortune selling this horrible stuff too all the burger joints. Have they tried using a stronger tasting cheese in a burger, it makes all the difference.

Real food such as saussage, bread, cheese, and wine needs to age and mature.

Unfortunately with the fast food movement some, if not many haven't had the oppertunity to eat real food.

Many people may not have even eaten a home grown tomato, cucumber, ear of corn, or etcetera.

Store bought bread like Wonderbread sticks to my dentures. Its an awful excuse for bread!

Velveeta is just glue.

Nitrate dangers.

I'll drop the first link I found about the dangers of nitrates.

There are many more.

Here on the West Coast of the U.S. there are many fast food chain "delicatessens."

They are terrible fast food restaraunts.

A good NY, or European deli that knows how to make bread and saussage is great.

Here on the West Coast of conspicuious consumerism - velveta is often known as cheese and Wonder is sold as bread.

I suppose one reason why expensive reatraunts charge more is because they use vodka instead of seltzer water for their fried fish, and who knows what kind of oil for their chips (rather than duck fat).

I see commercials here in the states for hot dogs that I find humerous.

The All American Frankfurter.

Hillarious if you know something about WWI.
