Blue Aura: Psychics Call It for Obama

OCT 26 2012, 10:35 AM ET 11

Political analysts have widely failed to consider that we already know how this plays out.

obama victory 615.png

Molly Ball highlighted the importance of which direction the women's vote breaks. Ronald Brownstein called attention to the leverage of the rustbelt vote. Andrew Cohen broke down voter I.D. laws. For everything analysts have found to squeeze and scrutinize, though, they've been universally negligent in addressing the fact that on November 6 at precisely 7:04 PM EST, Mercury goes into retrograde.

There is some degree of dissent among the psychic/astrologic community as to what our political future is -- and most temporize in saying that it involves a long, nuanced discussion -- but the bottom line consensus is that Obama stays.

Is that because most psychics are new-age liberals? Not at all. Even if that were true, we have to believe they would act in the interest of establishing a record of accuracy, as opposed to saying what they hope happens. Letting personal political leanings interfere with the veracity of their professional analyses also must go against the code of the trade. Here's what some have said:

Piggies

Re: the hooligan pigs in the Faces of the Day, such statues are found all across the Chinese cultural sphere. Here is one from central Taiwan that is even more graphic. I'ts right along a major north-south road, and made of high-quality plastic. Pigs are symbols of virility and fertility in Chinese culture, and more information on the subject can be found at Frog in a Well, the great Chinese history blog.

Detroit palm reader threatens to curse New Jersey woman in case of psychic ransom

Published: Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 11:25 AM     Updated: Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 11:27 AM
DETROIT — A case of supernatural blackmail has become a Detroit police matter.

Police in Hoboken, N.J. say a woman reported being cursed by three friends after she informed on someone regarding a police incident more than three years ago.

The victim was told, although it unclear by whom, that she would have to visit a palm reader on Arlington in Detroit to have the curse removed.

Hoboken Police Sgt. Sam Williams confirmed, based on the woman's statement, that she visited the palm reader as requested and paid $2,000 for the lifting of the curse.

It didn't work.

Two weeks later, the victim felt the curse still loomed and called the Detroit mystic again for help.

Williams said the palm reader told the New Jersey woman that the curse had been reinstated; to lift it would require a bit more money.

The victim obliged — for at least a while — paying over $2,000 throughout the next two years.

The victim stopped paying the clairvoyant's mystical ransom about four months ago, prompting the psychic to take action.

Police say the palm reader began making threatening calls every several months, requesting money, or else a curse would be cast.

It is unclear if the Detroit palm reader followed through with the threat, but the actions did result in the woman contacting police.

Williams said he could not reveal the identities of the victim or palm reader because the investigation remains open.

It has been forwarded to the Detroit Police Department for investigation. The Detroit Police Department Public Information Office could not be immediately reached for comment as of about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Williams said the actions of the palm reader are potentially illegal and could be considered "theft by deception."

"It's not the first time" something like this has happened, Williams said. "I'm sure it won't be the last."
