We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Cryptid conservationists, be on the alert; it's officially open season on Sasquatch. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, if you can find Bigfoot in the state of Texas, you can kill it.

Cryptomundo reader John Lloyd Scharf sent a letter to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department about whether it would be legal to kill Bigfoot, and apparently department Chief of Staff L. David Sinclair replied that killing an indigenous cryptid would be legal since it isn't listed as a game animal:

I hope all those hairy chested guys start shaving off....or always wear a T-shirt no matter how hot it is. For their own sake.

That, and avoid gorilla suits.

But this is seriously appalling, isn't it?  What is the tenable thought process here?  And beyond that, anyone who really believes there are Squatches out there roaming the woodlands is hereby given the right to shoot at an upright hominid off in the brush if he thinks it's "fair game."  This is nuts three times over.  People get mistaken for deer all the time.

Yes, it is LUNACY. Potentially dangerous lunacy.  Though I have to say that if you go to the site, the official letter in response to: "can I shoot a sasquatch in Texas?" never says "sasquatch" or "bigfoot" but refers to "nongame non-protected" animal:

If the Commission does not specifically list an indigenous, nongame species, then the species is considered non-protected nongame wildlife, e.g., coyote, bobcat, mountain lion, cotton-tailed rabbit, etc. A non-protected nongame animal may be hunted on private property with landowner consent by any means, at any time and there is no bag limit or possession limit.

That was an answer to "can I shoot a Bigfoot" question though, and the answer was as long as it wasn't endangered and on private property, go for it.

I guess that's the Texas way.

Private property is "sacred."
