The Boötes void is one of the largest-known voids in the Universe. According to astronomer Greg Aldering, its scale is such that "If the Milky Way had been in the center of the Boötes void, we wouldn't have known there were other galaxies until the 1960s" https://buff.ly/2JFTESC

Not the best explanation we have, Stephen; the best explanation you know.

We differ in that in the 1960s when I first learned of the BB explanation, I was studying physics and doubted it.
