And you thought the platypus was a nice, cuddly little monotreme. You would not have thought so 5 to 15 million years ago. 

Palaeontologists have uncovered the fossil of a platypus that looks as though it is on steroids.  The platypus dub the "Platypus Godzilla" was twice the size of to-days platypuses and had teeth that could chew crayfish, frogs and small turtles.

Interesting animal.  A lot of evolution and new species information coming out of Australia this year - or does this happen every year?

I am not quite sure why but I think it is linked to the fact that we are actually starting to really look at our own backyard more closely than we did before than looking at other peoples backyard!
