Newspaper Runs Ad Suggesting President Obama And Democrats Want To ...

The Daily Advertiser, a Gannett-owned paper serving central Louisiana, is standing by its decision to run an advertisement today in which a far-right extremist group suggests that President Obama and Democrats are conspiring to murder Catholics and Christians.

The ad shows a photograph of a Catholic priest who was shot and killed in Mexico in the 1920s, and suggests that President Obama and Democrats would do the same. It was posted by a user on Reddit this morning.

The ad copy is no better:

AMERICA is under siege by the same evil (obama and democrats) as history shows over and over…We must learn from it or we are doomed to repeat it. We must be triumphant over terror.”

Jonah Goldberg is becoming more and more crazy conservative. He used to be one of the semi-normal conservatives, now he's just another whacko.

National Review Writer: Conservatives Should ‘Beat’ Young People Wh...

The National Review’s Jonah Goldberg is claiming that 18-year-olds should be denied the right to vote because they are “so frickin’ stupid about so many things.” In a video first posted by the Daily Caller, Goldberg laments the culture’s obsession with youth and argues that conservatives should “beat out” young people’s belief that “socialism is better than capitalism.” Goldberg is the third National Review writer in two months to face controversy:

GOLDBERG: Personally, I think the voting age should be much, higher, not lower. I think it was a mistake to lower it to 18, to be brutally honest….[I]t is a simple fact of science that nothing correlates more with ignorance and stupidity than youth. We’re all born idiots, and we only get over that condition as we get less young. And yet there’s this thing in this culture where, ‘Oh, young people are for it so it must be special.’ No, the reason young people are for it because they don’t know better. That’s why we call them young people. [...]

The fact that young people think socialism is better than capitalism. That’s proof of what social scientists call their stupidity and their ignorance. And that’s something that conservatives have to beat out of them. Either literally or figuratively as far as I’m concerned.

For-Profit Education: Milking Students and the Taxpayers for Corporate Profits

Wednesday, 30 May 2012 16:43By Charles M Smith, Truthout | Solutions

Many readers of this column will recognize Charles Smith as one of our guest columnists, who unravels and exposes the fraud and waste in our military budget. He has now turned his considerable government knowledge to examining the problems with for-profit private colleges using the federal student loan program as their own lucrative cash cow to ensure a good profit while not investing as much money into their students when compared to nonprofit private colleges and public colleges. For those who don't know Mr. Smith's background, he is a little-known, retired, Army civilian employee hero, who went up against the Iraq contractor KBR on behalf of the troops and the taxpayers and was demoted. Smith was chief of the Field Support Contracting Division of the Army Field Support Command in Rock Island Arsenal and one of his main jobs was to oversee the enormous Army contract with KBR during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He told KBR he would legally be withholding 15 percent of all payments to KBR until their auditing systems caught up to their spending. His story as told by The New York Times can be found here.

Next week, Mr. Smith and I will be examining the self-dealing and influence peddling of this industry and will follow their lobbying and campaign contributions as well as the revolving door and cronyism that is emerging in this lucrative and sometimes exploitive industry. We welcome your personal stories on for-profit colleges and any input on this column through comments below or emailing me at dina@truthout.org.

The Disaster Capitalism Curriculum: The High Price of Education Ref...

Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:49By Dan Archer and Adam Bessie, Truthout | Graphic Journalism

"Education is the civil rights issue of our generation," presidential hopeful Mitt Romney announced in a recent press conference, where he also claimed that our public schools are in a state of "national emergency." Former Governor and former Bain Capital CEO Romney is now portraying himself as a civil rights hero, fighting against systemic racism and inequality that provides American children a "third world education." And the cause of this emergency? It's not the foreclosure crisis, persistent unemployment, nor the 21 percent childhood poverty rate - after all, the multimillionaire, who made $27 million in 2010, is "not very concerned about the very poor," as they're already taken care of. Rather, this grave civil rights injustice has been inflicted by excessively powerful "special interests" and "union bosses" that put their needs in front of the poor, minority children. And Romney plans to be the 1 percent's very own Martin Luther King Jr., a "champion of real education reform in America."

Welcome to other side of the looking glass, and into the Bizarro world of so-called "education reform" - an upside-down universe in which up is down, left is right and multimillionaire CEOs are civil rights heroes championing social justice, while public school teachers are corrupt fat cats, maintaining a status quo which oppresses students in poverty and racism.

The Parable Of The Fishes And The Loathes

By  May 30th, 2012

Who would Jesus have the government mass murder?  A Kansas Baptist pastor believes he has the answer...

The pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas says President Barack Obama has gone too far in supporting same sex marriage and it’s time for the U.S. government to begin killing gay men and lesbians.

“Terrorists are dangerous, the economy is a real and present danger,” Pastor Curtis Knapp told his congregation on Sunday. “But there is simply nothing other than the holocaust of the unborn which imperils the safety of our country or places our people in jeopardy as does the leader of the Western world publicly raising his fist at the heavens and declaring that the bedrock institution of society, ordained of God and meant to be protected by the state, is little more than a convention of convenience with the children of Sodom to transform the meaning of something, which is precious to Jesus Christ, and a living picture of his love for the church into a legally protected justification for perversion and a vehicle of hatred aimed directly at that love.”

Knapp went on to read from Leviticus 20: “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death.”

They should be put to death,” Knapp declared. “‘Oh, so you’re saying we should go out and start killing them, no?’ — I’m saying the government should. They won’t, but they should.”

Kill them all, let God sort them out.  We should totally put these guys in charge of the government and vote in hardcore Republican nutjobs like this so that they can make stuff like this happen.  What’s that, you say?  “Morally bankrupt and borderline psychotic”?

Well, sure, but he’s a Real American™ from the heartland, you know.  A real crazy American, that is.

Feeling better about that agnostic choice I made in college.  Your mileage may vary.  This guy’s mileage is all little skull symbols, apparently.

In response to Bennett’s flirtation with birtherism, 17,000 people signed a petition asking him to also investigate whether presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mit.... While it remains to be seen whether such an investigation will reveal that the former Massachusetts governor is indeed a fantastical horned beast similar in appearance to a horse, it’s not clear whether Romney would be permitted to run for president if he is indeed a unicorn. The Romney campaign is likely to rely on the candidate’s past statements about corporations, and claim that “unicorns are people, my friend.”

Romney Touts Constitutional Amendment Disqualifying Eisenhower, Roo...

Too inexperienced to be president

At a campaign rally in Las Vegas yesterday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney touted the idea of making anyone who does not have a business background as ineligible for the White House as if they had been born in Kenya:

“I was speaking with one of these business owners who owns a couple of restaurants in town,” Romney said. “And he said ‘You know I’d like to change the Constitution, I’m not sure I can do it,’ he said. ‘I’d like to have a provision in the Constitution that in addition to the age of the president and the citizenship of the president and the birthplace of the president being set by the Constitution, I’d like it also to say that the president has to spend at least three years working in business before he could become president of the United States.‘”

Romney continued: “You see then he or she would understand that the policies they’re putting in place have to encourage small business, make it easier for business to grow.
