Well things are pretty hot in Quebec these days. The posts and pans banging is still on every night at 8:00P.M. and the demonstrations carryon.
What seems to be happening in my view is that the demonstrations now are not only about the students protests but have gone way beyond that... I guess it's against capitalism in general...
With the summer, and all the events and celebrations planned beforehand, things may get tricky. This week-end is the Grand Prix in Montreal and I wonder what may happen?
Many "artisans" who make their living selling what handcraft they have made in winter are already seriously feeling the impact of this upheaval in the whole of the province of Quebec. The Francofolie, an evening festival is already also affected by the unrest (thepots and pans banging are part of it )....

Permalink Reply by Marianne on July 30, 2012 at 11:03pm Well, it definitely had an impact in the Province of Quebec; everyday now we're expecting the announcement of an upcoming election (and I truly hope the actual government with Charest at its head will be overturned). Young people have started a political party here named La Classe from what I gather.
Permalink Reply by Marianne on June 28, 2012 at 12:06am My usual pots and pans banging music at 8:00 every p.m. has stopped I think for the last three days; so it seems, have stopped the nightly demonstrations.I don't know what to think but I still see people on the street wearing their symbol, the red square. I'll have to see what happens or get some info from people who are closer to the movement than I am...
Permalink Reply by Marianne on June 28, 2012 at 11:20pm I heard today that the student are stopping for the summer but on August 16th when they are supposed to finish the session, who knows what will happen ? ; nothing is settled between the government and the student on strike still.
Permalink Reply by Marianne on July 12, 2012 at 11:54pm It's in the wind that Quebec will be up for elections very soon.
Permalink Reply by Marianne on July 22, 2012 at 11:37pm There was a massive demonstration in Montreal today about the student protest:about 10,000 people walked on the streets, whilst in Quebec city it was more subdued, only a few hundreds persons participated.
More news to come...
Permalink Reply by Marianne on July 31, 2012 at 9:26pm Well it's now official, there will be provincial elections in Quebec on the 4th of september. Heated debates and a lot of flowing ink are sure to occur...
Permalink Reply by Marianne on August 1, 2012 at 11:49pm There are a number of parties runinng up for election; The lousy prime minister Charest is counting on the mute population to speak up in his favor; they have all been brainwashed by trashed T.V. news and trash radio, so all my entourage is hoping that the PQ (Parti Quebecois) will overturn him. It seems the students have only 30% of the population behind them, they have aligned themselves behind the PQ who now definitely states their intentions are not to become independant from the rest of Canada (who might chuck us out one day maybe !!!). There is a green party the CAQ party, a few independentists parties but the CAQ wins the ridicule by aligning itself to Romney, that is wanting to cut on all social services and benefits.
Permalink Reply by Heather Spoonheim on August 2, 2012 at 12:03am I'm very much looking forward to these elections - should be a very active campaign.
Permalink Reply by Marianne on August 20, 2012 at 1:10pm We are in full swing election time. The students' leaders are exhorting students to vote for the Parti Vert or the Parti Solidarité which are both left wing and environmentally minded which would be great if they weren't in such a minority position. So it kind of leaves to think that since those votes won't go the the Parti Quebecois, the main opposition, they will all be lost and will help Charest whom we want so desperately to go...
Election day is in 2 weeks and even if the Parti Quebecois has very good chances, maybe it might be in a minority position; and there is always the silent population whom we are always frightened of...
Hoping Charest will go !
