I don't have a Marjong set but I do have a traditional Abacus.

I Think I've seen that character on a Marjong tile

你好 Chris

English speaking people already read words in character form. The most common word is a line drawing of a person in a wheel chair. The letters are called "pin yin" and is not writing the word but spelling the sound. Pin yin is Chinese for "spell sound". Also, education in China starts at an early age. Their motto is "no education, no job, no food",simple as that.

Sounds like a potentially interesting subject.

Perhaps as a suggestion expand it to all SE Asia.

I don't know much about Tialand, Viet Nam,  Laous, Mamar (Burma), or Malaysia.

Heard about flooding and typhopnes in some of the areas along with cultural conflicts.

I read  that China has ~52 distinct different cultures.

My Union had an office in Wardour Street just around the corner from Gerrard Street the center of China town and the Mecca of great food. I spent a lot of my time in the area,

Middle Kingdom is because it is hemmed in by surrounding countries which were viewed as enermies. The name China came about because the europeans Emperor Qin was ruler at the time
