WorldwideThe Real Cost of Mormon Temple Work

WorldwideThe Real Cost of Mormon Temple Work

The Real Cost of Mormon Temple Work

The Mormon Church believes that we can perform ordinances such as baptisms, marriages (sealings) and Endowments for those people that are dead. These rites are performed in Mormon Temples

There are about 150 temples worldwide. They are beautiful, massive buildings that are constructed with the finest materials and engineering. Their cost has to be enormous. (The church does not release the cost of anything.

Annual estimates to the church in building and maintaining the temples as well as the cost to members ranges from about 1 to 3 $Billion / year.

Even though the LDS Church has at times performed temple ceremonies in rivers, tents and cabins, they insist on building $50 million ornate buildings while knowing of the suffering, hunger and poverty around the world.

It is a common story taught in LDS churches of a poor family from an island in the Pacific or somewhere deep in the Amazon saves money for years to attend the temple at a distant location rather than use the money for education or housing. The story refers to the great sacrifice and faith of those people, essentially promising them eternity in Heaven.

The real cost of all this might be in the shaming and social loss of those who leave the faith or part member families who cannot attend the temples weddings of their loved ones.

Saudi woman who wore skirt in viral video has been arrested, state television reports

A young woman is at the center of a controversy about clothing in Saudi Arabia, after she posted videos of herself in one of the nation's most conservative provinces wearing a short skirt and a cropped top.

The woman has been arrested by Riyadh police for wearing “suggestive clothing,” Saudi state television station Al Ekhbariya reported Tuesday.

The brief clips, originally posted to the social network Snapchat over the weekend by a popular user named Khulood, show the woman walking through an ancient fort in Ushayqir, a village in Najd province about 95 miles from the capital, Riyadh.

The woman wears a skirt that stops above her knees and a top that shows her midriff; her head is also uncovered.

Such an outfit runs afoul of conservative Islamic ideas about women's dress that are prevalent in Saudi Arabia. The country legally requires women to cover themselves while in public by wearing an abaya, a loosefitting cloak. Traditionally, Saudi women are also expected to wear some kind of hijab or head covering, and some opt to cover their face with a niqab.

Nature is nature & doesn't give a damn about life, bad, good, or otherwise.

I prefer the idea of not having to live up to some standards that are considered the correct ones, to have some non-existent afterlife.

As for suffering, everyone suffers with something at sometime or another, & that's just the way it is.
