From Andrew Sullivan and the Dish - another reason for the mockery of idiots
Robyn Ross visits a Texas town that's home to 113-million-year-old fossilized dino tracks:
In the beginning, God created dinosaurs and humans, and they walked together in Texas. At least, according to many people in Glen Rose. The small town about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth is home to some of the best-preserved dinosaur tracks in the world; it’s also a heavily Christian community where many locals interpret the book of Genesis literally. Their belief is bolstered by a phenomenon in the riverbed. Alongside the dinosaur tracks are what resident R.C. McFall and others call “man tracks”—tangible proof of biblical creation accounts and a refutation of the theory of evolution.
... According to geologists, the rock layer near Glen Rose containing fossilized dinosaur footprints is 113 million years old. Dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, about 60 million years before the earliest humans appeared. So what are the riverbed man tracks? The answer comes from amateur paleontologist Glen Kuban, who’s studied those tracks since the ’80s. They’re actually more dinosaur tracks, Kuban says.
What do you do when people use religion to perpetrate empirical untruth? In a free country not much. But on this kind of issue, it seems to me that Hitchens was right. These people need to be mocked mercilessly for ignorance and stupidity. This isn't faith. It's bullshit. And yet in this advanced country, it's everywhere - and one political party panders to it.

Permalink Reply by Adriana on April 24, 2012 at 8:52am I totally agree! This is one of the exceptions where people, not just ideas, need to be ridiculed. Because here is a case of willful ignorance. And I'm not talking about people who had no opportunity for education, are poor, or otherwise disadvantaged, I"m talking about people who have an education, politicians, public servants, who say crap like the Earth is 6000 years old or humans walked with dinosaurs (and are not talking about Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, the movie).

If you didn't watch last night's Colbert Report, you need to get a hold of it, you're in for a treat. Too bad I can't post a link (Canada, copyrights, stupid law...)

Permalink Reply by Davy on April 24, 2012 at 3:50pm He sure did!
No wonder you lot are in the state that you are in.
In NSW the Dept. education sets the curriculum that all schools must follow besides the state schools. But sets out a narrow selection of text books that the Headmaster and staff can choose from to use in that school. The text books have to meet Dept of Education guidelines and standards. That is what I can gather after putting four boys through the NSW school system both state and church run. As well as personally learning Training Design and Instructional techniques.

We live in a Dumocracy. I hope he gets into Mormom heaven and has to look at sleepy rocks for eternity.
