Gender Blender

We aim to discuss all gender issues, not just women issues. Society views of gender affects us from birth. It is the biggest divide between people. We welcome issues relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

World's Health Organization definition of gender:

Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behavior, activities and attributes that a particular society considers appropriate for men and women.

The distinct roles and behaviour may give rise to gender inequalities, i.e. differences between men and women that systematically favour one group. In turn, such inequalities can lead to inequities between men and women in both health status and access to health care.

This group may end up having an emphasis on issues of inequality, since these are huge issues, human rights issues; they concern everybody. I also encourage discussions on every aspect of gender: science in general, sociology, psychology, education, rights, etc. are all important topics. I will add pages to the group with websites of interest. Suggestions are most welcome!

Bathroom policy.

As ridiculous as it is.

Restroom Access Broadened With New Law Signed By Gov. Brown

BAY AREA, CA – Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation that is being considered the most inclusive restroom access law in the nation, California officials said Thursday.

Assembly Bill 1732, which was authored by Assemblymember Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, establishes that all single-user restrooms in any California business, government building and or place of public accommodation
must be accessible to all genders, according to Ting's office.

The bill comes as at least 19 other states have recently considered restricting access to restrooms, locker rooms and other sex-segregated facilities according to biological sex.

The bill, which will go into effect beginning March 1, 2017, was sponsored by Equality California, the Transgender Law Center and California NOW, Ting's office said.

"California is charting a new course for equality," Ting said in a statement. "Restricting access to single-user restrooms by gender defies common sense and disproportionately burdens the LGBT community, women and
parents or caretakers of dependents of the opposite gender. Bathroom access is a biological need. This law will ensure more safety, fairness and convenience access for everyone."

Earlier this year, San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed similar legislation, introduced by Supervisor David Campos.

That legislation requires that all city businesses change signage on all single-occupancy restrooms, indicating that they are neither for men nor women exclusively.

More above.

Sarcastically - the next thing you know there will be segragated diaper changing tables.

I wonder if in North Carolina  a man has to take his baby boy to have his diapers chinged in a mens bathroom. If he has a baby girl then what?

If a mother has a baby boy who need a diaper changed where is she to take him?

Wouldn't it be against the law for a mother to take her baby son into the womans bathroom to change his diaper and visa vera for a man to take his baby girl into the womans bathroom to change the diaper.

Let them all deficate in the street!

Garments worn by infants and toddlers I've seen in other lands have a slot cut in the back of their baby clothin making diaper chainging unnecessacary.

I stand corrected Paul Lambert. You are correct. Hitler influenced the thirties through the fourties more than any other person. Progroms, genocide and what not aside.

Westerners don't typically care about what happens in the  East so Mao Zedong isn't on the map

Unfortunately the most admirable people today seem to be in the entertainment industry.

Would it have been better if in 1939, Time guessed who was going to be the most positive force for the future?

Thinking of that I would say George Marshal  who provided the most positive influence during and after WWII in both the European and Pacific theaters was the most important person.

Re: Hitler named man of the year.
Remember, while the title is often a tribute to someone who has made positive contributions, it's really a note of those most influential in the world. You can't deny, Hitler was influential in '39.

"The Benality of Evil is simply that. The Milgram experiment shows that what happened in NAZI Germany is within everyone. It could have, and can just as easily happen anywhere again."

ISIS is using the same type of psychological manipulation. To get back on subject. Radical Islam throws alledged homosexuals off buildings, treat women as property, forbids girls and many boys from attending educational centers (a.k.a. known as schools) rather than strict religious institutions.

The former head of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadienejad said, with a twinkle in his eyes that there are no homosexuals in Iran. I read that as long as a young man isn't married consorting with a boy, or other young men isn't considered homosexual behavior.  The economy is terrible and the unemployment rate of even college graduates is high. Society forbids consorting with women even as an educated male is forbidden until marriage. Without an adequate job and income marrage is out of reach and socially forbidden.

It's no wonder young men are angry.

Western powers have continued to destabalize governments and societies in Arab countries. Climate change caused and is causing an increase in wheat prices making bread unaffordable.  The protester in Tansia who self imolated was a protest over the high cost of bread.

It's no wonder ISIS has so much control. My understanding is many, of not most of ISIS military leaders are former Iraqi Baathists who weren't allowed any type of government service.

G.W. Bush and company didn't seem to want to learn, or care anything about history as recent as WWII. No wonder so many high ranking military officials and diplomats quit after "W" claimed "Mission Accomplished."

It's unbelievable to me that in 1939 Adolph Hitler was named Man of the Year by Time Magazine for 1938.

Christal night happened November 9-10 of 1938.

More in the above two links.

Reporters and ambassadors stationed in, or visiting Germany prior to and through the 1936 Olympics saw how nationalistic, exclusionary, and troublesome the NAZI party was.

The tradegy of people aboard the St. Louis indicates how anti-semetic the America's (including Cuba) was.  Post WWII many South American countries took in NAZI's wanted for war crimes. Operation Paperclip in the U.S. also allowed many war criminals to evade trial including Wernher von Braun, the hero of the space race in the U.S.

Perhaps most don't know that the Bellamy salute was used in the U.S. when school children "Pledged Aleigance to the Flag"

U.S. schoolchildren May 1942.

The U.S lead the idology of racial superiority mostly from my reading to prove former slaves were inferior in order to justify the history of slavery and at the time current practice of Jim Crow laws.

The U.S. continued sterilizing 'undesirables' against their will into the 1970's.

The Benality of Evil is simply that. The Milgram experiment shows that what happened in NAZI Germany is within everyone. It could have, and can just as easily happen anywhere again.

Recently I've seen a tendancy toward nationalism and fascisim in population groups and elections in Western 'democracies.'  There hasn't been an inoculation for such social unrest. WWII hasn't taught humans much about Progroms, Genocide, Slavery, racial superiority and/or etcetera.

The U.S. refused entry to many Jews at the begining and during WWII as well. The SS St. Louis is one example.

SS St Louis: The ship of Jewish refugees nobody wanted

On 13 May 1939, more than 900 Jews fled Germany aboard a luxury cruise liner, the SS St Louis. They hoped to reach Cuba and then travel to the US - but were turned away in Havana and forced to return to Europe, where more than 250 were killed by the Nazis.
