He needs to be humiliated publicly.

Oh, i wasn't concerned for that asshole's well being Is that a beat-up is not sufficient. His actions should be illegal, punishable by law, and they should also warrant that he cannot work as a judge.

Comment by Adriana on November 3, 2011 at 1:07pm

No, he doesn't need to be beaten up (though that may make us feel good). he needs to be disbarred, lose his job and be jailed for child abuse. this is what would happen to this man in civilized places, like, say, Europe, or even my little neck of the woods in South America.

How crazier can it get? He's perfect for a society that believes in corporal punishment as a valid means of moral education. Or he's an incestuous spanking fetishist...

Real America and the occupation

by digby

I know that this is an unpopular observation at the moment, but it's still true:

Alex Lundry is the director of research at the Republican firm TargetPoint Consulting, which specializes in segmenting and targeting voters based on their consumer and social behavior. Some months ago I asked Lundry what one piece of information, apart from partisan registration, he would most want to know about someone to predict whether he or she usually votes Republican or Democratic. He didn't hesitate for more than a moment. "Whether there is a Bible present in their home," he said.

Gallup data released today helps explain Lundry's answer. Gallup confirmed that the Republican Party continues to hold the most appeal to the most religiously devout, especially among whites. The results underscore the extent to which the two parties' electoral coalitions continue to revolve around cultural affinities and attitudes rather than class, even amid the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

You would think that a potential President would have SOME basic understanding of the World and recent history at least

In an interview with PBS, Cain appears to suggest that Americans should consider China dangerous in part because they’re pursuing “nuclear capability.” In fact, China tested its first nuclear device in 1964 and has had a stockpile of warheads for decades.

The relevant passage:

HERMAN CAIN: I do view China as a potential military threat to the United States.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And what could you do as president to head that off?

HERMAN CAIN: My China strategy is quite simply outgrow China. It gets back to economics. China has a $6 trillion economy and they’re growing at approximately 10 percent. We have a $14 trillion economy — much bigger — but we’re growing at an anemic 1.5, 1.6 percent. When we get our economy growing back at the rate of 5 or 6 percent that it has the ability to do, we will outgrow China.

And secondly, we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

Don't we all know that Greenland was never green. It was a marketing campaign.

Comment by Doone on November 1, 2011 at 8:45pm

The right’s preoccupation with Greenland

In 2009, then-RNC Chairman Michael Steele was trying to argue that global warming isn’t true. As evidence, he said, “Greenland, which is covered in ice, it was once called Greenland for a reason, right?”

In 2010, Sen. Ron Johnson, the strikingly dimwitted Republican from Wisconsin, also tried to make the case against climate change. After blaming higher temperatures on sunspots — a claim that still doesn’t make sense — Johnson added, “There’s a reason Greenland was called Greenland. It was actually green at one point in time. And it’s been, since, it’s a whole lot whiter now.”

The preoccupation with Greenland continues in 2011.

It snowed in New York this weekend, which can only mean one thing for many conservatives: Global warming is a hoax. Appearing on Fox Business on Friday night, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) agreed with host Eric Bolling’s assessment that scientists are getting “dumber,” saying, “We’re not as warm as it was when Greenland was really green.” He added, “I think it was the 1930s was the hottest year on record.”

First, the warmest year on record was 2010.

Second, even Koch-financed climate science shows that global warming is real.

And third, will the right please get over this Greenland preoccupation? The place got its name from Erik the Red to make it sound more enticing to potential settlers.

We’re talking about a global climate crisis. The Republican inability to debate above a third-grade level strongly suggests we’re doomed.
