Scump is a small man with small hands and heart - from TPM

One of the things that comes through most clearly in these deposition transcripts is that President Trump has an intense and visceral rage directed at Ukraine. Even from Trump, it’s jarring to see it in the brief moments in which witnesses relate conversations with him. We can speculate just who the people are. But the pretty obvious answer to where this comes from is cronies who surround him who pump him up on the evilness of the people in Ukraine. We did an Inside Briefing yesterday with foreign policy expert Heather Hulburt. And one of the issues we discussed is that President Trump seems to have the same ingrained and aggrieved hostility toward the Kurds, something that comes out in one on one conversations much as it does in these exchanges related by witnesses in the impeachment probe about Ukraine.

This is fascinating on a few levels since if anything Kurdophilia has been the default position of the US foreign policy and national security elite for the last two or three decades. Where is that from? The clearest answer seems to be that two of his most important advisors and confidants – Michael Flynn and Rudy Giuliani – have both been lathered up with hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars from oligarchs in the orbit of the Turkish government.

People close to him say that Giuliani constantly rages about the perfidy of the Kurds. I don’t want to make this into a morality play about this one group. All of the ethnic and sectarian groups in the tragedy of the Syrian civil war have complicated histories and complex relationships with Great Powers like the United States. But with Flynn and especially Giuliani the answer seems pretty clear: money. And because they’re tight with Trump, their angers, goals and senescent phantasms are his. Trump, unsurprisingly, is probably also getting cashed in in ways we’re yet to learn.

The simple point is that when a President is deeply corrupt and focused less on policy or ideology than self-preservation and self-dealing it has massive and catastrophic effects on everything in government – for beyond the mere self-enrichment.

@Stephen
This is also beginning to occur in Australia as well.

Stephen

The Liberals ( Aust. Tories)  in Australia are going the same way with the added style of corruption and it is now being carried out quite blatantly as they think they are not accountable to anyone.

They are trying to stifle any criticism of them and their cronies like the big mining outfits and the banks. The banks have them in their back pocket and the banks know this. They are trying to make it so that you are tied to the banks with your money as the way things are going they may cause interest rates to go negative and this is one way of stopping people from pulling their money out of the banks when it does occur. Lesson learnt from Japan when their interest rates went negative. When interest rates go negative people with money in the banks start paying to have their money in the bank.

They are investigating for the third time  a non-profit organisation that is aligned with no political party and is more or less crowd funded because they had the temerity to go into their safe seat electorates and tell the people the truth about their policies. They also lambaste the opposition as well. The organisation is called "GET UP " and they ask the people what issues they should pursue, so they can work out an effective campaign to address the issues the people.

But the people are slowly waking up and pushing back. They are slowly learning that the MSM pushes the Liberal agenda and beginning to distrust them even more than they did a decade ago.  Because of free independent news sources on the web and word of mouth spreading that news in discussions.

Doone. The trouble is and has been for quite some time that Borass and the Tories have been quietly giving contracts to their cronies both in the UK and US. It started small with contracts for cleaning and patient transport for the NHS but they've become bolder since the Brexit referendum.

Scump tells all

Senior Trump administration officials considered resigning en masse last year in a “midnight self-massacre” to sound a public alarm about President Trump’s conduct, but rejected the idea because they believed it would further destabilize an already teetering government, according to a new book by an unnamed author.

In “A Warning” by Anonymous, obtained by The Washington Post ahead of its release, a writer described only as “a senior official in the Trump administration” paints a chilling portrait of the president as cruel, inept and a danger to the nation he was elected to lead.

More Scump Crimes

We don’t even need to get into the other crimes involved, having a crooked lawyer taking over US foreign policy in a critical part of the world and sidelining professional diplomats. We just focus on the core thing. The President is given tremendous power to advance the national interest, see that the laws are enforced, preserve the national welfare. These aren’t powers that he owns personally. They are delegated for these ends. Your banker has great power to act on your behalf. They have no right to steal your money. A doctor has vast powers to cut your body, make decisions when you are unconscious. They no right to kill you or sell your organs or fondle you for their personal satisfaction. It’s all the same thing. Stop saying quid pro quo or getting lost in the details. The crimes are clear. Use language that accurately describes them.

The Crimes of Scump (from TPM)

Here are some basic thoughts about what happened in this story, what matters and how to describe it.

The President used extortion to cheat in the 2020 presidential election. He used military aid dollars meant to aid an ally against his Russian patrons in order to force Ukraine to intervene in the 2020 elections, in order to remain in office by corrupt means.

There are various crimes that get committed along the way. But that is the core of it. The President is delegated vast powers to act in the national interest and he has vast discretion to determine what he or she believes the national interest is. But when he uses those powers for his own personal or financial gain they are illegitimate on their face, abuses of power and merit impeachment. The fact that he was doing so to sabotage a national election makes it vastly worse. And the fact that he was getting a foreign power to sabotage a US election makes it worse still. Any talk of “quid pro quos” and this and that minutiae is a distortion of what happened. Quid pro quos are simply exchanges of one thing for another. Presidents will ask for help on one bill in exchange for another. They’ll condition one kind of aid to a country on assistance on another foreign policy goal. In itself it means nothing. The crimes are bribery and extortion, the abuses of power are using presidential power for personal gain and the central offense against the state is the attempt to sabotage a national election, the event on which the legitimacy of the entire system rests.

It’s pretty obvious on its face that the President did these things for his own personal interest rather than the national interest. But even this isn’t left to accusations or logic or surmise. His chief coconspirator has said repeatedly that all his actions were done exclusively in the interest of Donald Trump.

American Hospitals Are Way Too Expensive

Andrew Sprung has a complaint about Elizabeth Warren, one that I’ve shared in the past:

For almost two years, I have complained at intervals that Elizabeth Warren is faking it on healthcare — that is, blaming U.S. healthcare dysfunction entirely on the rapine of health insurers and pharma, while giving healthcare providers a pass.

In presenting her plan to finance Bernie-brand Medicare for All, Warren leads with this rhetorical reflex but then, finally, departs from it. She has to, as the plan’s viability depends on cutting off providers’ most lucrative revenue sources.

Sprung is right, and no universal health care plan will succeed unless it addresses our real problem. Here’s an example:

In Britain, a heart bypass costs $24,000. In America the average price is $78,000, and that can skyrocket to $161,000 or more if you’re unlucky enough to get treated at an expensive hospital.

Why? Because heart surgeons in America are paid more. Hospital rooms cost more. Drugs cost more. And, yes, admin costs are higher. This can’t be cured overnight even with the best health care plan, but it can be slowed down and addressed over time. That should be a goal of any universal health care plan worth the name.
