Iran women dance in support of arrested Instagram teen

Women in Iran have posted videos of themselves dancing online, in support of a teenager who was arrested.
Maedeh Hojabri had gathered thousands of followers on Instagram with videos of herself dancing to Iranian and Western pop music.
On Friday, state TV broadcast Ms Hojabri's apparent confession.
Social media users shared videos and messages supporting the young dancer, using hashtags such as one that translates as #dancing_isn't_a_crime.
The Iranian government has strict rules governing women's clothing and dancing with members of the opposite sex in public is banned, except in front of immediate family members.
Ms Hojabri's videos showed her dancing at home without the mandatory headscarf, or hijab.

Several other dancers have reportedly also been arrested in recent weeks.
Blogger Hossein Ronaghi commented: "If you tell people anywhere in the world that 17 and 18-year-old girls are arrested for their dance, happiness and beauty on charges of spreading indecency, while child rapists and others are free, they will laugh! Because for them, it's unbelievable!"

I think it's fair to say that Hillary could have said something more meaningful.

Good news for the LGBT community in Britain, I hope it's something they actually enforce.

Perhaps some don't know pushing a button on an elevator multiple times (in succession) doesn't accelerate the speed for the lift to arrive.

Rumors indicate it may result in spouses using more hair coloring.(dye, curling  irons {which is an oxymoron - a curling iron to straighten hair- in a special way(?)), and other treatment  to cover for example (black eyes).

Entire sarcasm.

Of course, I support this new initiative but I can't help but remember that it was a Tory government that brought in a law (clause28) which banned the promotion of Homosexuality.

British government to ban gay conversion therapy

The British government is seeking to ban gay conversion therapy as part of a $5.9 million effort to make the nation more inclusive to the LGBT community.
The initiative arrives after the government released results of a survey of LGBT people to the public. The survey found that found 2 percent of the 108,000 people surveyed had undergone conversion therapy and that 5 percent of respondents had been offered the treatment, CNN reported Tuesday.
The survey also found that more than 66 percent of respondents said they have avoided holding hands in public with a same-sex partner for fear of how others would react.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement to CNN that she was "struck by just how many respondents said they cannot be open about their sexual orientation or avoid holding hands with their partner in public for fear of a negative reaction."
"No one should ever have to hide who they are or who they love. This LGBT action plan will set out concrete steps to deliver real and lasting change across society, from health and education to tackling discrimination and addressing the burning injustices that LGBT people face,” May continued.
An announcement of the initiative obtained by the news outlet also said the effort will consider "legislative and non-legislative options to prohibit promoting, offering or conducting conversion therapy."
The announcement arrives after a number of U.S. states have moved to ban conversion therapy in recent months, including Washington and California.

Maine governor vetoes bill that would ban conversion therapy

Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) on Friday vetoed a bill that would have banned conversion therapy in the state, local CBS affiliate WABI reported.
LePage said that the measure could be considered a threat to religious liberty, and that there is no evidence that the therapy is taking place in Maine.
"This is so broad that licensed professionals would be prohibited from counseling an individual even at the individual's own request,” LePage said in his veto message.

LePage also said that "parents have the right to seek counsel and treatment for their children from professionals who do no oppose the parents' own religious beliefs."
"At no time should such treatment take the form of mental or physical abuse and such treatment should always be subject to the statutory requirements of the standard of care for that profession," he wrote.
The Maine state legislature passed the conversion therapy ban late last month.
Thirteen other states have banned conversion therapy. The governor of New Hampshire signed a law last month banning the practice, and Delaware state lawmakers also passed a bill.
