Feedback and Notes

Due to Ning (our Web hosting company) being bought recently from the ashes of Mode Media we often experience 500 connection errors. Our apologies but these errors are out of our control. Hopefully, this will improve as the new company gains experience. Regards, AU

President Trump. (Bill O’Leary/The Washington Post)

President Trump. (Bill O’Leary/The Washington Post)

Why is the Trump presidency such a rolling disaster?

When Republicans imagined having a president of their own and control of Congress, they thought it would be a nonstop string of legislative achievements and improvements to government, bringing an inspiring new era of efficiency and effectiveness that showed Americans what the GOP was really capable of.

That is not quite how things are working out. Let’s take a brief tour around the news from just today, to see what is befalling the Trump administration:

Federal judges in Hawaii and Maryland halted the second version of the administration’s travel ban, ruling that its discriminatory intent likely makes it unconstitutional and putting it on indefinite hold.: After a brutal Congressional Budget Office assessment showed that the Republican bill would cause 24 million Americans to lose their health coverage, House Speaker Paul Ryan now admits that the bill can’t pass the House in its current form.: “President Trump on Thursday will unveil a budget plan that calls for a sharp increase in military spending and stark cuts across much of the rest of the government including the elimination of dozens of long-standing federal programs that assist the poor, fund scientific research and aid America’s allies abroad.”

That last one may not look like bad news — yet. But it’s going to produce both internal and external problems. It’s already causing consternation among Republicans on Capitol Hill, many of whom like to talk about limited government in the abstract but aren’t as happy about the kind of radical cuts the administration is suggesting, setting up a conflict between the White House and Congress. They’ll also find that the public, too, thinks “small government” sounds like a good idea until you start cutting the programs they depend on. And that’s before we even get to the Russia scandal.

Every administration has good periods and bad periods, successes and failures. But this is more than a slow start; two months in, this presidency is a rolling disaster.

doone even if his points drop to zero, what can be done to oust him.

The rest of the world thinks he is an idiot, but still he carry's on.

We've been through this before many over seas leaders thought that Reagan was an idiot but he went in to win a second term. Are we going to repeat history.

Trump is down to 37 approval in Trumpistan

Do We Have Lift Off?

We've seen a few drop-offs in support for President Trump since he took office two months ago. But they've mainly rebounded to a relative stability with a high single digit deficit in public approval. This is his steepest dive to date.

California waiter refused to serve 4 Latina women until he saw 'proof of residency'

It was girls' day out, and Diana Carrillo had abandoned her desire to eat healthy well before she, her sister and two friends got to the Southern California restaurant. The destination: Saint Marc, an upscale spot in the seaside city of Huntington Beach, where Carrillo had been once before.

As the waiter walked up to the table, Carrillo figured she'd splurge on the grilled-cheese sandwich and pay the $2 up-charge to add some of the restaurant's signature bacon. To start, maybe she'd share a watermelon and cheese plate with her sister and friends.

But the mood soured quickly after the waiter appeared. Before he could serve the four Latina women, he said, they needed to show proof of residency. "I need to make sure you're from here," he said.

Flummoxed, the four women handed over their IDs. But as what was happening sank in, they fumed. "I looked at my sister and [my friend], and I said, did he really just say that?"

A few moments later, they walked over to the manager and told him what had happened. He offered them a separate section and his business card to make things right - but they had already decided to leave.

Still livid a few hours later, Carrillo, a 24-year-old business analyst from Orange County, Calif., posted about the incident on Facebook:

"For a few seconds I thought maybe he was being a smart a- or joking but the fact that he said 'I need to make sure you're from here before I serve you' was completely unacceptable.

Political Research Associates

Has a crash course of Trumps first 100 days. It's up to week 7.

Interesting reading to understand Trump and conservatives in general.

http://www.politicalresearch.org/2017/01/29/first100days-crash-cour...

Week 1 is the Alt-Right.

...The Alt Right helped Donald Trump get elected president, and Trump’s campaign put the Alt Right in the news. But the movement was active well before Trump announced his candidacy, and its relationship with Trump has been more complex and more qualified than many critics realize. The Alt Right is just one of multiple dangerous forces associated with Trump, but it’s the one that has attracted the greatest notoriety. However, it’s not accurate to argue, as many critics have, that “Alt Right” is just a deceptive code-phrase meant to hide the movement’s White supremacist or neonazi politics. This is a movement with its own story, and for those concerned about the seemingly sudden resurgence of far-right politics in the United States, it is a story worth exploring.

The Alt Right, short for “alternative right,” is a loosely organized far-right movement that shares a contempt for both liberal multiculturalism and mainstream conservatism; a belief that some people are inherently superior to others; a strong internet presence and embrace of specific elements of online culture; and a self-presentation as being new, hip, and irreverent. Based primarily in the United States, Alt Right ideology combines White nationalism, misogyny, antisemitism, and authoritarianism in various forms and in political styles ranging from intellectual argument to violent invective. White nationalism constitutes the movement’s center of gravity, but some Alt Rightists are more focused on reasserting male dominance or other forms of elitism rather than race. The Alt Right has little in the way of formal organization, but has used internet memes effectively to gain visibility, rally supporters, and target opponents. Most Alt Rightists have rallied behind Trump’s presidential bid, yet as a rule Alt Rightists regard the existing political system as hopeless and call for replacing the United States with one or more racially defined homelands.

Trump budget

The White House’s budget proposal for 2018, released Thursday, seeks cuts in science and health agencies across the board. Congress has final approval on this request from the president. Some budgetary wallets would be lightened more than others. Here is the breakdown.

Environmental Protection Agency: 31 percent cut
2017: $8.2 billion
2018: $5.7 billion

National Institutes of Health: 19 percent cut
2017: $31.7 billion
2018: $25.9 billion

U.S Department of Agriculture: 21 percent cut
2017: $22.6 billion

Department of Energy: 6 percent cut
2017: $29.7 billion
2018: $28.0 billion

NASA: 1 percent cut
2017: $19.2 billion
2018: $19.1 billion

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration: 1 percent cut
2017: $5.8 billion
2018: $5.6 billion

Chemical Safety Board: 100 percent cut
2017: $12.4 million
2018: $0

__

Here's what Trump's budget proposes to cut reported by CNN.

A weekend in the Southern White house would cover more than the cost for some of the items cut such as Meals on Wheels.

Lexus Nexus has a crime map that is interesting to view.  The media leads with violent crime which seems to make people fearful. If you look at the map in your neighborhood you likely will find crime isn't as widespread as portrayed.

Unspeakable Realities Block Universal Health Coverage In America

Election 2016 has prompted a wave of head-scratching on the left. Counties Trump won by staggering margins will be among the hardest hit by the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Millions of white voters who supported Donald Trump stand to lose their access to health coverage because of their vote.

Individual profiles of Trump voters feed this baffling narrative. A Washington Post story described the experience of Clyde Graham, a long-unemployed coal worker who depends on the ACA for access to health care. He voted for Trump knowing it might cost him his health insurance out of his hope of capturing the great white unicorn – a new job in the mines. His stance is not unusual.

Why are economically struggling blue collar voters rejecting a party that offers to expand public safety net programs? The reality is that the bulk of needy white voters are not interested in the public safety net. They want to restore their access to an older safety net, one much more generous, dignified, and stable than the public system – the one most well-employed voters still enjoy.

When it seems like people are voting against their interests, I have probably failed to understand their interests. We cannot begin to understand Election 2016 until we acknowledge the power and reach of socialism for white people.

Americans with good jobs live in a socialist welfare state more generous, cushioned and expensive to the public than any in Europe. Like a European system, we pool our resources to share the burden of catastrophic expenses, but unlike European models, our approach doesn’t cover everyone.
