Well! I am a meat eater but when you have to subsidise the meat producers that much means that the meat producers are actually not economically viable!

I agree with you Neal it is totally backwards.

@ Chris Ethanol or more correctly ethanol fuel, is ethyl alcohol the same stuff you drink only its about 99% pure alcohol. That is why when car motors had long stroke engines they could run on whisky, vodka, rye whiskey. So it could be lumped in with the alcohol sector.

Amazingly sick chart. Totally backwards.

I signed up for a Farm Bill Webinar that's taking place on June 14 from 2-3 p.m (EDT) that The Union of Concerned Scientists is hosting. Click here to sign up.

Keely, Shouldn't the pie chart have ethanol on it?

The consequences of Wisconsin

by David Atkins

Digby noted earlier that, despite the press and the GOP jumping all over President's Obama's "gaffe" this morning that "the private sector is doing fine," the President is correct that the private sector would be doing much better but for the austerity-fueled anemia of the public sector. Predictably, Obama is walking back his remarks as we speak.

Well, here's Mitt Romney:

“[Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers,” he said. “Did he not get the message from Wisconsin? It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”

This is what it has come to. Direct attacks on some of the most popular professions in America from a candidate who is explicitly saying he wants to fire teachers and firefighters, while implicitly denying their identity as "America people."

This, even as the core of the President's argument that private sector growth has been dragged down by public sector austerity remains entirely accurate.

These are dark times.

Yep! It changes democracy to corpocracy!

@Keely- It makes me sick too!

I saw more employee problems at diseased work environments than good work environments. Employee's who were lazy ass holes at decent places to work were usually effectively counseled, trained, moved to a different job, assigned to a different work group, or with a different work partner, or dismissed. At diseased work environments ass holes were promoted.

The Citizen's United ruling is going to make advertisers a lot of money. Is campaign finance reform possible? Are we going to find out how the candidates payback election costs?

Comment by Neal on June 8, 2012 at 2:14pm

I'm not getting the ads here doone, will have to see if they're online.

The conservative super pacs are saying they will spend a billion dollars on the presidential campaign, that does change our democracy.

I have an open question about the ads - I live in one of the battleground areas of one of the battleground states so I see a lot of anti Obama ads and frankly they are boring and repetitive.   I cannot see the purpose of showing the same ad hundreds of times per week - fortunately I have a mute button.  Who the hell (Karl Rove) decided that one ad was a good idea - one ad that reminds viewers  vaguely that the debt has gone up under Obama.
