Corporate Media Hypocrisy: Ted Nugent's Death Wish for Obama v. Hilary Rosen's Work Jab at Ann Romney

Nugent is a problem, he represents the worst in people and is rewarded for his antics. He's an old punk, never grew up.

Mitt Romney's campaign welcomed the endorsement of a washed-up rock-n-roller who said President Obama could "suck on my machine gun." Where's the outrage?

In the realm of political outrages, a clear double standard exists: those directed against the president of the United States or his Democratic allies are simply regarded as white noise. Ever since the election of the nation's first African-American president, the media seem to have become acclimated to a right-wing rhetorical landscape so fraught with racism and violence that words once unthinkable as public utterances by supporters of a Republican candidate barely register as such. Yet, cowed as they are by the right-wing message machine, media figures often feel that they dare not ignore even the most ridiculous of right-wing talking points.

When CNN commentator Hilary Rosen took let loose some snark at Ann Romney's life as a privileged stay-at-home mom, the lag time for a media response could be measured in minutes. Ann Romney, wife of the likely GOP presidential nominee, "never worked a day in her life," Rosen said. The Rosen remark, said Ann Romney in an overheard conversation at a Romney fundraiser, turned out to be an "early birthday present." The Romney campaign wrapped it up with a bow and ran with it, and for the next six days, the Rosen remark drew an endless supply of tweets, op-eds and television punditry.

So when Mitt Romney's campaign warmly welcomed the endorsement of a washed-up rock-n-roller who called President Barack Obama "a piece of shit" who should "suck on my machine gun," one would imagine media bedlam ensuing. But despite our best efforts -- blogging, tweeting, listicle-writing -- the media responded with radio silence.

Yes, I agree,  I do not want my head chopped off for wearing an Obama T-shirt.   What about West as well - pretty awful comments and stupidity from a doofus in Congress

Allen West Says Congressional Progressive Caucus Is Communist But W...  —  The fallout over Rep. Allen West's (R-FL) Joe McCarthy-style accusation that “there's about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Party that are members of the Communist Party” continues.

I think Nugent has become the icon we needed to encapsulate the worst America has to offer on the political scene. The asshole is sort of doing the left a service. Another Joker in the Beck/Limbaugh & al. deck.

Heh, that picture says it all. =)

Did Humans Invent Music? or was it the NRA and Ted Nugent?

Did Neanderthals sing? Is there a "music gene"? Two scientists debate whether our capacity to make and enjoy songs comes from biological evolution or from the advent of civilization.

Music is everywhere, but it remains an evolutionary enigma. In recent years, archaeologists have dug up prehistoric instruments, neuroscientists have uncovered brain areas that are involved in improvisation, and geneticists have identified genes that might help in the learning of music. Yet basic questions persist: Is music a deep biological adaptation in its own right, or is it a cultural invention based mostly on our other capacities for language, learning, and emotion? And if music is an adaptation, did it really evolve to promote mating success as Darwin thought, or other for benefits such as group cooperation or mother-infant bonding?

Cat Scratch Romance

We hear a lot about the proudly white, righteously heterosupremacist, and warriorly aspects of Ted Nugent's personality, but seldom does anyone write about his soft, tender, romantic side--the side that wins the hearts of sweet young 12-year-old future rock goddesses.
It was 1976. Ted was 28 and in Love--in little Courtney Love's mouth to be specific. But, alas, Love was fleeting. With a spit and a moan, Ted lost his Love to the hard work of growing breasts and the fast paced world of Girl Scout cookie merchandising.

Ted found romance again two years later. Her name was Pele Massa, a high school student from Hawaii. Ted loved his teenage goddess dearly. No doubt she was the "teenage queen...lookin' so clean, especi'lly down in between" from that paean to romantic love, "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," he wrote around the same time.

Unfortunately, their love was beset with obstacles, the most daunting of which were laws against statutory rape. But love will find a way. In Ted and Pele's case, the way was a combination of adoption and the lax incest laws of the Seventies.

Heartwarming, isn't it. I bet the Romneys discuss Ted's love stories duringFamily Home Evening.

The commie finder excuses Nugent's comments

 Darius Dixon / Politico:

Allen West backs Ted Nugent  —  Ted Nugent doesn't bear “any ill will” toward President Barack Obama, Rep. Allen West said Thursday despite the rocker's appointment with the Secret Service over his controversial comments.  —  “I think he was just expressing maybe his opinion about something …

His comments on the video are insane. Nope, strike that, he's insane.

Poor little Teddy

So the Nuge is blubbering like a little baby over his concert at an Army base being cancelled due to his threats of violence:

Nugent told The Associated Press this week that his words were not intended as a threat against the president.

"To think that there's a bureaucrat in the United States Army that would consider the use or abuse of First Amendment rights in determining who is going to perform at an Army base is an insult and defiles the sacrifices of those heroes who fought for the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights," Nugent said.

Nugent said he had received messages of support from troops and noted that the Secret Service had met with him and closed its case about the remarks.

"There is nothing in my spoken word or written word that could be even wildly considered by any stretch of the imagination to be a threat to anyone," Nugent said.

Asked to clarify the remarks at the NRA convention, Nugent said: "A whole bunch of us ... believe ... we are in danger of being improperly and criminally jailed – I mean criminally on the part of the government."

Earlier in the week, Nugent pleaded guilty to transporting a black bear he illegally killed in Alaska, saying he was sorry for unwittingly violating the law.
[...]
Nugent said the prosecution in U.S. District Court was the result of a "witch hunt" by federal officials over his activism.

"We the people are turning up the heat," he said. "And that's why I'm being singled out by certain fish and game agencies and certain U.S. attorneys."

Typical wingnut, but words but whines and cries when he's held to his own standards. I guess he thinks he has the God given right to threaten and kill whomever and whatever he wants.

It's important that people realize that his last little clown show was far from his first. Maybe he doesn't think this sounded like a threat, but when you combine it with this, it sure sounds like it:

I was in Chicago last week I said, “Hey Obama, you might want to suck on one of these, you punk!” Obama, he’s a piece of shit and I told him to suck on one of my machine guns. Let’s hear it for them.

I was in New York and I said, “Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset you worthless bitch.”

Since I’m in California, I’m gonna find Barbara Boxer she might wanna suck on my machine guns. Hey, Dianne Feinstein, ride one of these you worthless whore.

I'm guessing somebody in the US Military was informed of these previous threats and decided it wasn't a good idea to allow him appear on base. It's a common problem when a Democratic president is in office. You'll recall that when Clinton was in office, there were similar issues:

Mr. Helms, a Republican from North Carolina, created a furor by saying that President Clinton was not up to the job of Commander in Chief, he told The News and Observer, a newspaper in Raleigh: "Mr. Clinton better watch out if he comes down here. He'd better have a bodyguard."

Mr. Helms said soldiers disliked President Clinton because he had avoided service during the Vietnam War, supported homosexuals in the military and had reduced military spending.

It's always something.

By the way, if you haven't heard Hannity excusing Nugent's tirade, you should. What a little jerk.
