A Woman's right to choose

Women's rights arguments in favour of abortion

  1. Woman have a right to decide what to do with their bodies
  2. You can’t have gender equality without the right to have an abortion
  3. Banning abortion puts woman at risk by forcing them to use illegal abortionists
  4. The right to an abortion should be part of a group of pregnancy rights that allows woman to have a free informed choice to end a pregnancy

Religions men, & governments should all butt out of a woman's personal business.

Why do these mainly white men think they can control the lives of women in the US. Conservatives in the UK wouldn't dare demand the end to a women's right to choose.

Outrageously backward.

Michigan still has a conservative controlled legislative branch, our new governor is female and a progressive. They are working on the same ban here, but our governor will veto it. The problem with that is "right to life" organizations will get it on the ballot and it may pass. They haven't lost in any state they've manage to get it on the ballot, but this is a moderate centrist state and hopefully it will be defeated. If I was a woman in any of those states that have passed abortion bans, or have female children, I'd move the fuck out. Damn evangelicals need to go.

Alabama passes bill banning abortion
Alabama has become the latest US state to move to restrict abortions by passing a bill to outlaw the procedure in almost all cases.
The law includes a ban on abortion in cases of rape or incest.
Supporters say they expect the law to be blocked in court but hope that the appeals process will bring it before the Supreme Court.
They want the court, which now has a conservative majority, to overturn the 1973 ruling legalising abortion.
Sixteen other states are seeking to impose new restrictions on abortion.

Earlier this year the Supreme Court blocked implementation of new abortion restrictions in Louisiana. However, the ruling was made by a narrow margin and the case is due to be reviewed later this year.

Why is this happening now?
The bill's architects expect that it will be defeated in the lower courts but hope that it will therefore eventually come before the Supreme Court.
They have been emboldened by the addition of two Trump-nominated conservative justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, who give the nine-member court a conservative majority.
Their aim, they say, is for the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling to be undermined or overturned completely.

Alabama's Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth said: "Roe must be challenged, and I am proud that Alabama is leading the way."
Eric Johnston, who founded the Alabama Pro-Life Coalition that helped draft the bill, told NPR: "The dynamic has changed.
"The judges have changed, a lot of changes over that time, and so I think we're at the point where we need to take a bigger and a bolder step."

Don't blame the "Global Gag Rule" about birth control on Trump. He and the followers who prey to him are following the band of his predecessors.

GWB banned condom supplies  (in-spite of the Aids epidemic)....

The Bush administration's ban on funds to family planning clinics which offer abortion counselling is adversely affecting the supply of condoms to countries hit by HIV/Aids, it was claimed yesterday....

...Amy Coen, president of Population Action International, the lead sponsor of the study said: "The policy significantly reduces access to vital family planning and health-related services for some of the world's poorest women and weakens vital HIV/Aids prevention efforts." The rule was "another example of how the Bush administration is allowing political ideology to trump science"....

...The policy was introduced by Ronald Reagan, thrown out by Bill Clinton and reinstated on George Bush's second day in office.

Family planning groups say the policy is damaging the cause that Mr Bush has espoused in a bid to show the compassionate side of his administration, that of HIV/Aids.

USAid is the most important single donor of condoms to the developing world, procuring and delivering more than a third of all donated supplies, worth about $75m a year.

The report said that by 2002, the policy had ended shipments of USAid-donated condoms to 16 developing countries whose family planning associations are affiliated to the International Planned Parenthood Federation and who refused to sign the pledge. They include Swaziland, which has one of the highest HIV rates in the world, Burundi, Chad, Gambia and Mauritius.

USAid's condom supplies to a further 13 countries have been cut because the main, although not the only, family planning organisation will not sign. They include some with the worst HIV problems in Africa: Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
