A Woman's right to choose

Women's rights arguments in favour of abortion

  1. Woman have a right to decide what to do with their bodies
  2. You can’t have gender equality without the right to have an abortion
  3. Banning abortion puts woman at risk by forcing them to use illegal abortionists
  4. The right to an abortion should be part of a group of pregnancy rights that allows woman to have a free informed choice to end a pregnancy

Yet another piece I wrote a LONG time ago, but considering the current attacks on a woman's right to control her own body, I think the relevance of the following still maintains.  Let me know what…Continue

Quite Mrs B far too long.

It's not quite equal to the English because there you can have an abortion up to 24 weeks pretty much on demand as far as I'm aware, although the law doesn't say that, in practice, it seems to be the case.

Over here it will allow for abortions up to 14 weeks unless there is risk to the life of mother or foetus. It's a good start.

They are also looking into decriminalizing it over here.

Long past time, too.

Suzanna. That's great news. Well done to the people of the Isle of Man.

Does that quite equalise things with the rest of the UK?

Wow what a great idea to use an iconic picture of the Handmaids tale to protest unfair abortion laws

Comment by Mrs.B on December 15, 2017 at 15:34

That makes for an impressive sight.

Yes, we're very behind in some ways. It's a doctor who is leading the way for us and some protesters called handmaids. This is the silent protest they held last year, it's become a bit of an iconic image.

Suzanna,I often forget that the Isle of Man has different laws to the rest of the UK but I assumed it was much closer to our rules

More & more people are rebelling against having babies just because some religion says they have to. Changes can't come fast enough!

Irish Lawmakers Recommend Repealing Strict Abortion Ban

DUBLIN — An Irish parliamentary committee on Wednesday recommended that a constitutional ban on abortion be repealed, paving the way for the liberalization of one of the world’s strictest abortion laws.
The committee recommended removing the provision in the Irish Constitution that gives a fetus and the mother an equal legal right to life, which has been the law since 1983. That provision has been used to ban abortion in all circumstances, including rape, incest, fatal fetal abnormality and any risk to the life of the mother.
