We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

This thread is just for fun. Here’s how it will work:

I will post the first question.  The person who guesses it gets to go next.

Questions can consist of anything related to a specific animal or species. For example, you can ask us to identify the species, or you can identify the animal and ask why it is unique, or you can ask which animal / species is capable of xyz. Get the idea? Basically any animal related trivia question will do.

Don’t make them too hard, if you can avoid it. One part questions only. For example, you can’t ask us to identify the species, where it lives, and it’s mating habits. No one will get all three.

Only one person at a time can ask a question. You can only go if you got the answer right.

To keep the action flowing, if you know for certain that you got it right, you may proceed with your next question. If you only think you got it right, please wait for the OP to confirm first.

If we get stumped, I’ll appoint someone else to go.

No Internet searches. That's cheating! You have to guess. Use your noggin.

If it is your turn, reply to the original thread only, not to someone else's comment. There are only so many reply spaces under each comment, so start again at the beginning.

ADDENDUM TO RULES: If an question goes 24 hrs with no one able to guess it, then the poster should give us the answer so we can move on. The next question can then be asked by the first person who responded to the previous, unanswered question.

Here’s the first question: The New Mexico Whiptail lizard is well known for being able to…?

How is it that I've never seen nor heard of this animal. It's like an alligator anteater cross.
It's snout is so long and thin because its diet is exclusively fish.

What is this creature and what depth(or height) does it live?

A snowball sea urchin. It lives on the ocean floor.

(BTW, one part questions only please. People seldom get both right.)

Sorry for the second question, it was meant as more of a hint, oh and wrong.  Wrong phylum.
I would have thought it was some kind of anemone. It is white so it probably lives at considerable depths.
Wrong phylum also.
Hmmm...I have no idea, I'll have to think about it.
Want another hint?  Look at first hint distraction.

It looks like its under water, but since it is so close up, it may be on a desert floor or a plateau. Since you brought up the depth question, I'm inclined to think it must be relatively high or low to sea level.

It is an animal and not a plant, right?

We are restricting this to animals, correct?

Yes, but I just want to be sure that Chuck knows that -- because this sort of looks plant-like, too.

Of course, we could include plants if people wanted to go that route.
