Rick Perry's co-chair for elections in Florida is a Right Wing Watch staple who enjoys considerable prominence in evangelical circles in that state as "the Prayer Lady." Never mind that if you pray in one hand and shit in the other, five will get you ten that the shit hand will fill up quicker. Never mind, either, that Pam Olsen of the Tallahassee House of Prayer can wield dogma with the best of them in slaughtering the dragon on reason so that the power of myth can prevail. Miracles necessitate post hoc reasoning insofar as the praying party enjoys the delusion of saying that prayer "worked" or the fall back position that the only reason the prayer did not "work" is that "God moves in mysterious ways."
All of these misguided fools are so hypnotized by their holy books that they look for "signs and portents" to argue that naturally occurring phenomenona, perhaps exacerbated by climate change, are "God's signs" that the End is Near. Their glorious Rapture is just around the corner, and if you don't believe, look at the evidence, as preached by Rick's Prayer Lady: "God is shaking. If anybody looks at the news and has just seen what's been happening recently with the floods, the fires, the tornadoes. God is shaking. Yeah, I think you have God shaking, sure you have the Enemy shaking, you have both and I don't want to say oh that's the judgment of God or that's the Enemy. But the reality is God is judging us, an I think it's going to get worse."
By "the Enemy," one must suppose that Mrs. Olsen means Satan, that great scary bugaboo seized by the dualists as the embodiment of evil and the reason man turns against God and does nasty things. The loony-ness of these yahoos is boundless.
I had never heard of this "Prayer Lady". It seems unbelievable that there are people like that in the 21st century in America.
I must admit, it is jaw-dropping. But an even worse thought is that there are audiences to listen to them.
