What a terrible experience

People here have been marvelous, & we've had great support from the Red Cross. I always donate to them for disaster relief, but never thought we'd be on the receiving end. I donated some yesterday to our own disaster relief.

I think its great that the BC Red cross are looking after you and the other evacuees so well. it must make you feel you are not alone in this horrible situation.

Nearly all the businesses here are offering freebees to evacuees, & they had a carnival for us all on Saturday. Couldn't go as our son & girlfriend had to work, but we can't wander around anyway. We need our scooters for that kind of thing.

I'm glad you are safe and hope you house is safe.

Be wary of scams.

There are what's called storm chasers who prey on people in need.

The Canadian red cross If you have been evacuated, please click here to register online or call the contact centre at 1-800-863-6582 to have an agent help you register. The following is about victims from Hurricane Sandy.

Similar scams happened with Hurricane Katrina.

"If You Suspect a Disaster-Related Scam

Known Scams

  • A scam call from a “Federal agency” offering you a $9K grant (and if you try to call back the number that appears on your caller ID, you get the Red Cross switchboard).
  • An advertisement about a Red Cross doctor who needs to relocate out of the country quickly and is trying to sell or rent his house.
  • A phone call, text message or email stating that a family member is volunteering with the Red Cross in Haiti and has been arrested.
  • An email that comes from a “” email address:

Thank you for your donation to hurricane sandy relief. We appreciate your donation of 435 dollars. Credit card on file has been charged if you did not authorize donation please go to (website URL) to unauthorize the charge.

Thank you again for your donation,

Red Cross"

The redcross' website doesn't end with .net, or .com.

Need I talk about GWB's dismanteling of FEMA and how it impacted the citizens of Lousiana.

Today's picture. The lake is in the foreground.

You cant go home while that still happening. Hopefully in wont be too much longer before you can go home.

Still 151 fires around, 400000 hectares burned, & highways still closed Smoke is terrible, & we're having some smoke issues here as well.
Some fires will burn all winter as it gets into the tree roots & travels underground.

Good grief that's a lot of ground. Considering that the entire Isle of Man is just over 57,200 hectares, it's hard to imagine that you'd have to burn about 7 of them to make up the same amount. Hope the smoke doesn't get bad enough to evacuate again.
