They say there aren't many of them out their but 'they' happen to be Fox News and Christians. I look at it this way though. The majority of the world are sheep and will willingly fall into a mainstream. If we're all freethinkers here then I think we agree that a lot of people in the world are that way. But, if you're a Atheist Democrat, ask yourself if you've fallen into a mainstream like religion in a different form. I consider government to be another sort of God. Think about it...
Government promises the perfect world where all who play the ideological game will be happy...
...just like religion.
Many will not question it, just as the religious won't question their god.
They too have a Bible. It's called the Media. You've probably been reading more of it than the Christians have of their own book.
There are also SINS! Working for more money. Being Rich. Making more than the guy next to you. Making jobs that aren't government jobs. Selling products that can be used irresponsibly. Not wearing seat belts. Not wearing helmets. Exercising the Second Amendment. Offending a minority group. Bringing up the 10th Amendment at all to tell them that many of the things they've been doing are UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
It is hope. It is another opium for the masses. It is the reason communist regimes are Atheist. Because the regime, the government, has taken God's shoes.
This is too obvious to be ignored by anyone who claims to be a freethinker.
So is government the answer?

I think you mean well, however.
Permalink Reply by Daryl on April 17, 2012 at 7:03am Psychotic, no. Mulled over for about 20-30min or more before I posted it, yes. Did you even try to put any thought at all into it? If you can't have an open mind to people who criticize your government "God", then how do you claim to be better than religious people? All too often people know the arguments against a certain group and why it's BS, but they fail or don't want to turn around and apply to their own ideology. I was just pointing that out. I'll admit the Republicans are just as guilty of this because they'll make these same points against government and not apply it to their own God.

Permalink Reply by Davy on April 17, 2012 at 9:49am You are forgetting the what caused the fall of communism.
People that finally realised that they had enough and it began with Glasnost that began with President Gorbachev in the 80's.
While under the communist rule the common people had 2 ways of speaking, one for when they were in the street and one they called kitchen talk. So do not think that people look at the government as a de-facto god they didn't.
Btw kitchen talk was the language they used to bitch about the government and their bureaucracy without being dobbed in for being bad soviets.
Permalink Reply by Daryl on April 17, 2012 at 8:55pm I was thinking more along the line of Adolf Hitler's regime which would probably be better described as socialist. But people did believe in their government. Just not all of them. Just like a powerful theocracy, if you can't talk discretely about your government you will pay the price.

Yes! I do question what the Government does!

Permalink Reply by Neal on April 17, 2012 at 3:09pm Hey Daryl.
This thought, "But, if you're an Atheist Democrat, ask yourself if you've fallen into a mainstream like religion in a different form," is slightly puzzling. What real difference is their from a conservative atheist? He follows a cult like thought pattern where nothing is more sacred than the almighty dollar and protecting the unborn. I agree there are many followers in the world, none more so than in the ranks of conservatism. Whether someone is a conservative atheist or not, the party is full of theists blindly following those in charge.
Whose bible is the media? The government's?
I'm a fairly progressive individual and I think there is a role for government to play. I do question that role constantly. I'm not understanding your "sins" list. I do not know of any liberal that thinks working for more money is a sin. The first three sins you list are related, so the answer is good for all. Creating jobs that aren't part of the government is a great thing, as well as creating government jobs that improves or benefits the welfare of the general public. I'm not sure of your point there.
Helmet laws and seat belts are insurance lobbyist laws, only mandated to keep costs down. People exercise their second amendment rights everyday, so don't understand that thought. Offending minority groups is a sin? I just thought it was moronic. I have to say I don't understand some of the examples you bring up.
Could you make a statement that clarifies the thought? Elaborate a bit?
Are you trying to state that democrats are like theists while conservatives are freethinkers? Heh, that would be a tough thought to prove, since there is so much easily obtained data that contradicts that premise. =)
I have never understood how any theist could be conservative, though I know they exist.

I suppose you meant atheist?
Permalink Reply by Daryl on April 18, 2012 at 7:50pm Read my posts to find out why. They're rich with common sense. :)
Permalink Reply by Daryl on April 17, 2012 at 4:57pm You're confusing conservative with Christian. Fox News can claim to be "True" conservatives all they want but then they have to throw in religious values which gives conservatism a bad rap. Therefore there is a line to draw between the Republican Party and what Conservative is. Conservatives simply want to stick to the Constitution and keep government out of people's lives as the First ten amendments guarantee. So I wouldn't say nothing is more sacred than the "almighty" dollar. The Constitution could be said to be "sacred". As for being pro-life, I'm pro-choice, but as a conservative I would leave that to the states to decide rather than the federal government.
As for the media-Bible comparison. I was simply stating that the media has a degree of power over the lesser intelligent individual. Also that that is where the Politicians come to lie. Both parties are guilty. Some politicians more or less than others.
I think the government plays a role, but a small one. The government should exist to protect us from each other, manage foreign affairs, and protect our soil.
Also do you think rich people don't work? I'll admit some of them are born into wealth but what about the guy that went out and had a good idea, made something people wanted, or was intelligent in the business world. Do you think he wants to pay more than 50% of his money in taxes? And do you think for one second that taxing wealthier people and corporations like that won't end up raises the prices of everything we buy from them?
As for private sector vs. public sector, I like having police officers and firemen. But, the government doesn't build wealth in our nation so it cannot be a business. Everything that the government had that was holding the value of the dollar went with the gold standard. Now it is run on two things, our production and FAITH.
Insurance lobbyist laws. But wait a minute. Although the insurance lobbyists are crooked, the government lets them in in the first place.
We do practice our second amendment rights but you'll also see that guns are regulated in many areas especially populated ones. In many cities it is now illegal altogether. And of course many different makes of guns are illegal. So although we still have our guns, you can see that they are slowly taking them. And it's working too because a lot of people apparently aren't noticing. But you can always count on criminals, to not follow the law. Therefore the only people with guns are criminals.
As for minority groups. I'm sure you hear all the time about somebody getting fired or attacked because they said something stupid that was turned into a racial or sexist slur by some angry activist group. Just recently Republicans were attacked over not wanting the government to pay for women's birth control. I'm not against women using birth control but it's not the government's business to pay for it, when really we do.
I hope this clarifies for the above queries.
Basically, Socialism and Theism are two sides of the same coin. Not everyone who claims to be conservative is a freethinker. Putting aside names though, which are ruined as the decades go by anyway, the idea that you need god and that you need government to run your life are one and the same. And although the forefathers set up our government to operate without religion they did put limits on the government itself.
