Chris replied to doone's discussion Buzzfeed/11 Things Everyone Thinks Are In The Bible, But Aren'tWe are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.
They say there aren't many of them out their but 'they' happen to be Fox News and Christians. I look at it this way though. The majority of the world are sheep and will willingly fall into a mainstream. If we're all freethinkers here then I think we agree that a lot of people in the world are that way. But, if you're a Atheist Democrat, ask yourself if you've fallen into a mainstream like religion in a different form. I consider government to be another sort of God. Think about it...
Government promises the perfect world where all who play the ideological game will be happy...
...just like religion.
Many will not question it, just as the religious won't question their god.
They too have a Bible. It's called the Media. You've probably been reading more of it than the Christians have of their own book.
There are also SINS! Working for more money. Being Rich. Making more than the guy next to you. Making jobs that aren't government jobs. Selling products that can be used irresponsibly. Not wearing seat belts. Not wearing helmets. Exercising the Second Amendment. Offending a minority group. Bringing up the 10th Amendment at all to tell them that many of the things they've been doing are UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
It is hope. It is another opium for the masses. It is the reason communist regimes are Atheist. Because the regime, the government, has taken God's shoes.
This is too obvious to be ignored by anyone who claims to be a freethinker.
So is government the answer?

Our society is too complex for low taxes and smaller government and it definitely is too far gone for the Gold Standard or other Ron Paul ideas from the 1890's.

Conservative and Liberal are tarnished names. From my end liberal more than conservative but I imagine on the flipside conservative is just as tarnished. Today Christian is tacked onto conservative but that's because people let it. No one stands up and makes the point that liberal means for freedom and the Democrats take away our freedom as much as the Republicans. Liberals used to be progressives. Look what happened to that. It became a slur so they picked a new name. Should we let conservative become a slur because a bunch of overzealous Christians thought they'd push their 'morals' on us and do it by jumping on the band wagon of the party they think is winning?
As a conservative I want a free market where people like you can decide what you're going to do with your dollar. I what the basic rights laid out in the Constitution protected. I want the system that our forefathers with their direct knowledge of tyranny set up to be followed to the letter, no implied powers which the 10th amendment prohibits. I want the government to stop taxing people so the sorry-sses in my community who don't want to work will have to in order to buy that 64in plasma screen TV that my working family can't even afford. I want religion kept out of it. No war on drugs or prostitution. No blue laws. No jihads in the Middle East. Just Small Government.
Fairly reasonable values. Which you may call an ideology but they don't seem to be setting much up. More dismantling the crap that our system is running on. Basically, I could sum it all up by saying my one value is to see ideology destroyed and let people be their own guiding hand and I just listed the ideologys' crimes not actual values.

If every man woman and child did what they wanted we die out as a species. There are some real dumbfucks out there you know.
And stop with the falsehoods. I'm tired of the bullshit big screen tv crap. It's just a talking point for ditto heads. Crap, talking about sheep, just give them a line and they'll keep on saying it, no matter what the facts really are.

Perhaps you should read more history. Not just US history, world history. The conservative/religious tie works with other political systems and other religions as well.
Perhaps if you come up with some liberal/Taliban examples I'll change my mind. But for now I think your libertarian streak is just like an immature teenager who wants everything for himself without any care for consequences.
It's worse than conservatism, morally, IMO.

Well global warming is a bit off topic, but I’ll make the same point I’ve made dozens of times.
-Humans account for less than 1% of yearly CO2 emissions.
-CO2 is less than 1% of Earth’s atmosphere.
-Mars has very low atmospheric pressure and 95% CO2 and it’s freezing.
-Venus has very high atmospheric pressure and 96% CO2 and it’s a raging inferno.
Using Mars and Venus as models and the facts about Earth, Carbon emissions are not sufficient to noticeably “Pollute” the world.
“If every man woman and child did what they wanted we die out as a species. There are some real dumbfucks out there you know.”
I never said people should just go anarchy. If my memory isn’t fuzzy, I believe I have already posted in this forum that the job of the government is to protect people from each other. I’m not disagreeing. There are a lot of dumbfucks, but should everyone just give up their own rights attempting to stop dumbfucks when dumbfucks are by definition too dumb to even know or follow the law?

You don’t notice how the media seems to stir people up into moralist frenzies? How about the Trayvon Martin case? They have everybody sure he’s some hillbilly bigot who deserves to rot in prison. It seems like they’re always looking for the next Lizzie Borden nowadays.
“Perhaps you should read more history. Not just US history, world history. The conservative/religious tie works with other political systems and other religions as well.”
In many cases conservatism is described as keeping to the old. While some old things must go, there are some things that never change.
It’s immoral to steal.
It’s immoral to kill.
It’s immoral to rape.
A nation that has quickly grown in power and wealth, faster than any other on the planet, must be doing something right and to change, drastically, how it is working to match the nations that are declining is a bad thing. Just ask Greece. J
People will not build wealth unless they are rewarded. Without incentive, human nature is to give up.
A few people cannot regulate the lives of the many and expect any good results because the system is too big.
“Perhaps if you come up with some liberal/Taliban examples I'll change my mind. But for now I think your libertarian streak is just like an immature teenager who wants everything for himself without any care for consequences.”
Obama and the Taliban. It’s pasted all over the internet.
And what consequences are we talking?
“It's worse than conservatism, morally, IMO.”
How can it be worse than your definition of conservatism if the entire religious element is taken away?

Me and Fred Thompson! LOL :) I actually like to think that Thomas Jefferson and I were separated at birth and I was stuck in a time machine and sent into the future.
I'm not anti-science. I'm actually very scientific. People actually complain about it. According to that source Mars isn't "Globally Warming" and isn't showing signs of long term warming. But my point was that if CO2 was heating up Earth, Mars should be a raging inferno now. The real point was that atmospheric pressure has waaaaaay more influence than CO2. Of course the article also said other planets were warming up too. What is the central, most powerful object in the solar system? The sun. Sol. That big ball of plasma form hydrogen and helium that do whatever with the climate of any world and we can't do squat about it. Of course my other point was that man didn't cause climate change.

And Daryl, you said: Obama and the Taliban. It’s pasted all over the internet.
This is where I stop reading. Obama and the Taliban?? WTF?? You can't be serious. If anyone resembles the Taliban in ideology it's the right-wing Christian fundamentalists in America, right down to their misogyny and sexophobia. And these are the flag bearers of the conservative movement these days. And why is that? Because to serve the interests of a few, i.e. the corporate elites, the Republican Party (which I remind you, is the party that libertarians joined, voluntarily; Ron Paul does not run as an independent) will join forces with whoever will help them bring more votes, and in this case is the Christian fundamentalists. That's why someone like Ron Paul openly courts them by declaring himself "pro-life." Liberty to do business as we like, that's great, but god forbid a woman has the freedom to decide whether she can have a child or not, or even protect herself from pregnancy, oh, no!, apostasy. The hypocrisy is so revolting I feel I'm going to hurl.

There is also a page on Climate Science by Climate Scientists located here.
Then there's the fun Climate Science - SkepticalScience Widget that you can find here.
That is if you're interested in the science and not just the talking points.

The chart above tracks the progress of three political buzzwords on Twitter since the end of February, when Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a "slut." "Slut" never really took off, but "mom" did right around the time of the Hilary Rosen controversy. Off the heels of the Obama dog-eating revelation, "Dog" continues to skyrocket.
