We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

This murderers family was proud an atheist was murdered

calling for violence against atheists

If someone murdered a Muslim or Christian for being of that faith it's a hate crime, but it is not if someone is murdered for not believing in god. Well god bless America, huh.

what is Jacobinism?

-an secular version of the inquisition

Chris you will find this article in Wikipedia informative about the Jacobin's here :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobin

Thanks. Will someone recommend a book on the French Revolution that's written in English?

Thnx.

The Jacobins were obviously nuts.

They had Rousseau as their prophet and they were trying to get the populace out of the middle-ages, nothing wrong with that. But with Robespierre's ultra-puritan enforcement of virtue turning into paranoia, they invented the first dictatorship.

Thanks I'm watching Terror Robespierre and the French Revolution now. I knew that during the revolution that tens of thousands of people were executed including Robespierre and it was a revolution steeped in paranoia that was out of hand. I hope the videos you referred to tell me how they successfully eliminated the Catholic Church. Even though the revolution was a period of terror it's great that the French eliminated the Monarch and got the church out of the affairs of the state.

I just finished watching the two videos and will watch some of the other videos referenced. It would be interesting to know how the French Revolution influenced future revolutions.

I was shocked by these articles. Thanks for educating me. I had no idea. It also prompted me to explore atheist persecution within the millitary, which also shocked me. Anyone willing to die for our country should never be shunned for not embracing Christianity. How sad. Our soldiers seem to pay a big price with relatively little appreciation. To any atheist veterans or members of the millitary, I thank you and salute you.
