We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Immediately address the issue of gun control through the introduction of legislation in Congress.

The goal of this petition is to force the Obama Administration to produce legislation that limits access to guns. While a national dialogue is critical, laws are the only means in which we can reduce the number of people murdered in gun related deaths.

Powerful lobbying groups allow the ownership of guns to reach beyond the Constitution's intended purpose of the right to bear arms. Therefore, Congress must act on what is stated law, and face the reality that access to firearms reaches beyond what the Second Amendment intends to achieve.

The signatures on this petition represent a collective demand for a bipartisan discussion resulting in a set of laws that regulates how a citizen obtains a gun.

No doubt something needs to be done. Even if it's only starts by nipping around the edges. Get gun shows under control, background checks always, etc.

There is much that can be done immediately.

Yes. Gun shows are an aberration.
There's free-market at its best for you.

Why Booze and Gun Shows Don't Mix

Yeah! Notice the guns they are selling? Guns that a foot slogger would use in battle designed for most effective killing/immobilisation of a human adversary not for hunting an animal that has  little defence against a single shot rifle of the correct calibre in relation to the type of animal hunted!

These weapons are essential if you're attacked by...

  • A pack of wolves
  • A family of bears
  • A band of chimps
  • A congress of baboons
  • The Government
  • Roaming militias
  • Zombies
  • ...

you omitted the word "only" in front of the word essential!

I agree with them all especially zombies and the government though I'm a bit doubtful about a pack of wolves

If that is the case then your country is sicker than I realised!

Wow: Waiting for the Apocalypse

There’s been some level of mystery about just why Adam Lanza’s first victim, Nancy Lanza, had such a stock of weapons, particularly military style weapons like the .223 Bushmaster, the weapon we now know was actually used in the killings. She wasn’t just into guns. She was apparently stocked up for when the economy collapses and when everyone’s on their own with their guns.

Yeah, like that.

The Times has already reported that Lanza was a gun enthusiast. But there are lots of gun enthusiasts. And in most cases that just means you like hunting, or going to the shooting range or just are into the guns themselves.

But this sounds a little different.

WHDH-TV -

WHDH 7 in New Hampshire, the local NBC affiliate, interviewed Lanza’s sister Marsha …

“Last time we visited with her in person we talked about prepping and you know, are you ready for what can happen down the line when the economy collapses,” said the gunman’s aunt, Marsha Lanza.

The reporter asked, “Survivalist kind of thing?”

“Yea,” said Marsha Lanza.

Nancy’s guns were supposed to be for self defense. Marsha Lanza called her nephew a special needs child. So far, no motive has been released.

“Just pray for peace,” said Marsha Lanza. “Do I think gun laws need to be changed? No. It’s the person that does the killing, not the gun.”

Special thanks to TPM Reader JG for flagging the report.

The Daily Mail is not the most reliable source. But they also reference similar quotes from Lanza’s sister ….

Last night it also eme

That comment that M. Lanza said is a lopsided logic.

That maybe true but remove the gun then the gun cannot kill! can it?
