The only evidence that we have outside of the gospel that Jesus actually existed
"...there is very little trace of the historical Jesus. Essentially we are relying upon a throw-away line in a first century Jewish historian's work called the Antiquity. The historian who was named Flavius Josephus, who, while talking about far more significant historical figures, the Roman governor Albinus and the Jewish high priest Ananias, mentions how this Jewish peasant by the name of James, whose brother was Jesus, the one they call messiah, was unjustly put to death by the high priest in the year 62 CE. That’s it. That little tiny phrase, that clause, James, the brother of Jesus, the one they call messiah...the only evidence that we have outside of the gospel that Jesus actually existed.
i read somewhere that the passages about jesus in the history of the jews by josephus was a later forgery put in about the time when the christians took over the roman empire. Has anyone else heared this.
There are still "new" stories about the shroud of turin, how Christians were persecuted by the Romans, or how believers are persecuted today in the U.S. (probably in Brittian too) because they are being prevented from proselytizing.
This is just the top of craziness !!!!!
Next up unicorn sued for stealing patent on rhinoceros horn.
A recent book by David Fitzgerald called Nailed is also very good at addressing the lack of evidence for a historical Jesus.
These are very good points,, Yeah! They really make sense!
I'm partial to Jesus makes me feel good - gee that wasn't in the text, but it's all that matters to the believers.
