We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Faiths for People Who Haven't Kicked the Faith Habit

Nationalism is one such faith. It lacks religion's supernatural paraphernalia but its leaders want their followers' money and even their lives.

Others?

We need to stop revering money for one thing.

Mrs.B, the only way I know to stop revering money is to have more of it than I need. I can seriously disrespect it then.

There is another way, when all people have enough to live and nobody is exploited by others.

Don't hold your breath waiting for those, Stephen.

I wont hold my breath Tom. But ill continue fighting for a more equal society

Mrs B

What people are revering these day is an abstraction whose value is also based on abstractions and it is called fiat currency.

Davy, what do you suggest in place of fiat currency? What different effects will it produce?

By replacing the structure of Society from a vertical structure with its inbuilt inequality and its subsequent thinking by people that they are better than everyone else, with a Horizontally structured society based on equality with its subsequent thinking by people of is  everyone being looked after which comes from respecting all members of society.
In such a society it is the individual persons within the society that are valued more than material goods of society!
Unlike the vertically structured society where the material goods of society are valued more than the individual persons of that society and also more valued than the web of life that produces some of those material goods!

If people and the other creatures of the World that form the web of life were more valued than material goods by this present society then we would not having this conversation as our society and the World's history would be completely different to the one we have at present.

As an side there was a currency that was in use before they switched to a more easily manipulated abstract fiat currency it was called a metal based currency and the printed notes were termed representative currency because they could be exchanged for the physical amount of the metal represented by the value of the note!

But a metal based representative currency is harder to manipulate than an abstract fiat currency.

Basic healthy foods, clean water, basic shelter, & medical care/prescriptions, should not involve money. Anything beyond that, sure, pay for it.

Mrs.B, who will provide the food, the clean water, the basic shelter & medical care/prescriptions, and bring it to us from where it is?
