There should be a computer group.
I just bought a new monitor and it is way out of calibration. I usually buy Mac monitors which calibrate easy with the Mac software. The new monitor is an HP and now I need to buy a color monitor. Does anyone have experience with color monitor calibration? Is one monitor better than another and why? Is doing this going to be difficult?
Thanks,

Each company that makes monitors has its own software to adjust color and gamma. I suppose they keep on re-inventing the wheel in the hope of becoming the industry standard (a typical corporate wet dream.)
Monitors are notoriously difficult to calibrate without a standard image where the user "knows" what the right colors should look like.
(BTW Chris, I moved the discussion from the General category to the Technology category. You could also have posted this in Genius and Technology.)

Last night I found some generic Mac monitor calibrator software that doesn't use a calibrator device. Maybe with that I'll be able to adjust the monitor so it's at least usable. As it is I can't stand looking at it. I have some digital photography books with color pallets that I might be able to use to match the colors to.
There are a lot of non-brand specific calibrators available on ebay @ ~ 60% off the new price. I just have to figure out which one to get. The monitor I bought (used) was $250 and had some better specifications than the same size Mac monitor selling for $500 (used). Hopefully calibrating the HP will be worth the price difference.
