We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

O you who believe! Al-Qisas (the Law of Equality in punishment) is prescribed for you in case of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But if the killer is forgiven by the brother (or the relatives, etc.) of the killed against blood money, then adhering to it with fairness and payment of the blood money, to the heir should be made in fairness. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. So after this whoever transgresses the limits (i.e. kills the killer after taking the blood money), he shall have a painful torment.” Quran 2. 178

There are many points that is questionable in this verse:

The first point is that it divided people into classes and sects free men, free women, and slaves. The second point is that it put women comes after the class of slaves. (Quran and Hadith is famous in doing so to degrade women see: Chapter Name: An-Nisa Verse No:43)

The third point that it talks about the punishment of a free man killing of a free man but does not mention when a free man kills a free woman or a slave.

So according to this verse Quran don’t punish those who kills a person from another sect/class or forget to mention it even though the Quran said: „ We have neglected nothing in the Book “ Quraan 6.38

The fourth point is that there is no mention of intent in this verse. So what will happen when a person kill another by mistake or self-defence?

Let us compare them now with the Bible:

Matthew 5:38
You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.'

Exodus 21:25
burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

Leviticus 24:20
fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him.

Deuteronomy 19:21
"Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, and foot for foot.

Even if modern society does not agree with the bible’s justice but it is somehow acceptable.

Unlike the Bible that made it simple and logical: a life for a life. In contrast the Quran failed morally in this matter because he did not put people on the same level: if you are a free man your life worth more than a slave, and a slave life worth more than a woman.

And here is a moral dilemma: What if a free man kills a “free woman”, his wife for example, the Quran state that: „ We have neglected nothing in the Book “  (Quran 6.38) so according to Sharia there is no punishment.

I would like to ask Muslims to rethink of this morality or lack of it because a self-defence would be treated as planned murder.

Although the bible has a multitude of errors and contradictions it doesn't have the concept of abrigations, How do Muslims square the circle when it comes to contradictions in the Koran the so called inerrent word of Allah.?

A moral analysis of a weird verse in the Quran:

Don't put a oxymoron up where it doesn't need to be.

How so?

Amoral is the key.

What is the point of your Abrihamic nonsense

It's absoluting nothing.

Are you able to digest this into some meaningfull curd?

Being an idiot I sometimes look elsewhere for lessons.

This one is interesting.

Abrihamic and Shia Suni divide can be interesting. Aren't there more interesting things to phylosophise about?  Even more important aren't there more more interesting things to preach about?

Disect a Disney book -  What difference does it make?

Ever read any of Poet Kahlil Gibran's books?

If not you may find some of his poetry interesting.
